old external hard drive problem??

Hi,

I have recently had a problem on my hard drive which is connected via USB. its around 9 years old perhaps.

The icon which now comes up in my computer has changed to a windows icon if you know what i mean. When i open it, some files are still available but some have now turned into empty icons. The storage on the drive has remained the same.

How can i get my old files back?

I am simple with PCs so any help would be greatful.

No virus on the pc and the files that are blank are a mixture of pics, games and docs.

Give Recuva a go, but in all honesty if you aren't good with computers it might be better to give the drive to someone who is.

And replace the drive ASAP
