Hi guys,

I've got an old 20GB IDE drive I've kept in a non-working system and I've just powered it up and although I had the time to quickly browse, chkdsk and then defrag, the drive is now saying that it has no file system :(

Every time I click on the icon I am prompted to format! Is it possible that the latest activity killed it off?

In an ideal world I would like the chance to use the drive again to get my stuff off...

FAT32 mate. The drive was fine (by the looks of it!) for about 20 mins, the time it took to chkdsk and defrag. Now it just seems to have fallen over...

you could try a linux CD or usb drive to boot from & see if you can access the drive from that OS. You might not though if you have set permissions on the PC you took it from (I had that problem yesterday, it was a HDD pulled from my nephews old rig) Formatted in the finish.

No, I had it working but then after a chkdsk and defrag, it was gone...

Parted Magic shows it has a lot of errors, I guess it's just died.
