hi all,

I have an old android G1 and was wondering if there is anyway I can a) use it as a tether for my netbook when out and about and 2) connect it to my PC and use it as a barcode scanner to scan books into a database?

thanks

There is an app for the second part but I can't find it's name sorry :/ Tethering can be sorted with any decent G1 rom.

Wasn't really worth the effort posting was it, especially as according to myshra you're wrong :)

i've been using android for 18 months and i've yet to come across an app that allows you to use an android phone as a barcode scanner for a computer.

you could MANUALLY paste the results of every scan into a text file on the phone and then transfer that to your PC though.

Obviously didn't look hard enough:

http://www.appbrain.com/app/pc-bcr/brad.android.pc_bcr

Found by cunningly searching appbrain for 'barcode pc'

There's an all in one app that will put books / dvds into a library on the phone too but am having issues finding it. Skill has shown up my lack of searching skill though I'll admit :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

Only reason I was asking is that I know you can scan books barcodes and have them added to a google library for you but would have preferred something more customisable on the PC :)

After googling around I found this:

http://code.google.com/p/android-pcbcr/wiki/PC_BCR

You install a couple of PC programs then the PC_BCR app on your android.

Open the software and set it to 'listen' then scan with the app. I opened google library and tried the import via ISBN option and it words a treat :) Yes to try it with any other software, need to find some to use :)

All I have to do now is figure out how to tether it :)
