I was recently given an old G4 Power Mac from work.

Specs –
Power Mac G4: 1.25GHz
Memory: 1GB
Hard Disk: 115GB

I also have a Cinema display which came with it? I am able to connect this to my Powerbook? Do I need a converter?

I was thinking of using the computer as a server. Is this possible? I was thinking of installing Leopard on it and use it as file storage.

EDIT –*Could a Don move this to Apple Hardware? Apologies!

Thanks.

The Apple Cinema Display likely uses ADC (Apple Display Connector). You will need a DVI to ADC Adaptor for about 69 quid to use the Apple Cinema Display. Assuming you have a DVI Powerbook. http://store.apple.com/uk/product/M8661B/B

Note this only works with the flat panel displays... if it is CRT then you are out of luck. You can instead send it to me!

If it is a DVI Apple Cinema Display - it should work right off on your powerbook.

The G4 will make a good server, bung in a SATA card and some SATA drives for fast disk access, or hang some firewire drives off it, to abuse it's gigabit ethernet. You can run it headless if you steal the Display for your powerbook.

Beware the IDE ports may be limited to 128 gig disks, and it is supposed to be noisy!
