Old game help

Can anyone help me find a game from a couple of years ago?

It was based in the 18-19th century, you controlled a (pirate) ship and had to expand your empire in the caribbean by stealing other ships and cargo and selling it at different ports (where you could also legitimately purchase and trade). Gameplay wise I think it was a turn based type game but you actually say your ship move, then when in battle with another ship you had complete control over it (Red Alert style).

I know it's a bit thin to go on (and maybe slightly inaccurate) but does anyone know what game I am talking about?

Not sure if its that but the remake (released about 2 years ago) is an awesome game.

I think it was Pirates on the Amiga - I had this too and spent ages upgrading the boats

That looks like a possibility although it's not quite how I remember it (no mini games or duels), but I only had the demo. I'll have a bit more of a dig around see if it is it.

Any other suggestions? It's the right sort of time, aorund 2 years ago I think.

Port Royale maybe? its the only other one I can think of apart from Pirates

That could well be it, the name rings a bell.
