Old Gmail account weirdness..

This, i have a fairy common name and I have had gmail since almost the start and address is my name. I get emails for all sorts

I think this is a common issue. I'm in the same situation where I got my Gmail address when it was invitation only (Beta) and was able to get my name without any numbers or special characters. I often get emails meant for others. I think they forget they have numbers in their email and end up entering my address by mistake. I can't think of any other explanation.

I remembered last night that whilst at uni (2007/2008) I had set up a second gmail account for uni work....never used it and forgot all about until last night. Remember the address for it and set about with forgotten password reset and the account was linked to my Hotmail (that I still use) and i used this recover the Gmail address.
Not weird I know, but then I logged into the gmail account to find emails from Instagram and it turns out that guy who owns a guitar shop in Singapore has opened an Instagram account using my old and obsolete Gmail.....Anyone know how has this happened as it was still tied to my Hotmail for recovery purposes ??

Had this with my Gmail account, someone in the US had it linked to their Amazon account.

I actually called the person and asked them to change it, it took them 3 years to do this. Their name was similar to mine so I could understand the mistake.

I actually carried out a password reset as I thought someone had taken over mine.

Coincidence that your name is EGuitarStar? :D:D

I received an email to my GMail just last week from Maldon Escape Rooms thanking me for my visit and it included a Facebook link to a photo of "my group". Looking at the photo one of the people in it must have the same name as me. :D

My GMail is firstnamelastname and I've had it since GMail started in 2004.

Another one I had was for some online account for some gym in America. I kept getting emails for it for ages until I eventually decided to reset the password and log in. Turned out the guy had his credit card on file so I booked him out for $500 worth of extra classes. The emails soon stopped after that. :D

The best one is someone had or should I say has, used my email to set up a Netflix account. I reset the password and logged in and they are paying for the top subscription. Nearly a year later it's still being paid each month. :D

Get loads of these, guess its the downside of being early to register and getting your name as your email.

Annoyingly one guy has registered my main email with loads of phishing dating sites so get loads of junk from them but have also had their vodafone contract details sent to me and on another account I was accepted for an x factor audition! :D Sadly couldn't make it :p

Just think if had they had bothered to type their email correctly they could have been a star!
