Old harddrive into new computer?

Got an old HDD from my old pc, is it as simple as plugging it into my current pc and away i go?

Its an IDE HDD

yea should be, tho you may get have set it to boot in bios if it has an old os on it. i'm guessing you're just sticking it in to get 'stuff' off it. or you using it for storage?

Need some very important files from it, took the HDD out without realising i had stuff on it.

Might re-format after and keep it for storage too.
