old hdd on new pc

Just bought all the components to build a new gaming pc apart from a hdd, i have an old samsung 250gb hdd, could i just install this to my new build and when asked by windows 7 format and install win7 to it? or would it be to slow on a new build
i am planning on buying a large ssd when the prices come down abit

Is the old drive IDE or SATA? if its IDE then modern boards dont have these connections anymore.

If it is SATA and it saves you a few £££, use it, you can wipe it at the beginning of the Windows installation.

It'll work, mind you if its an IDE drive it could be an issue as most boards will not have IDE connectors. Definetly worth getting an SSD though.

Theres an Asrock 1155 board that i saw a while back that does, maybe a few others too but likely whatever board he has dosen't.

What is the exact model number of the drive?

It's probably well worth getting a new drive, they're a lot faster than older ones, they tend to be quieter too!

You could even get a Crucial M4 64GB SSD, use that for Windows (it will fly!), and keep your files, music etc on the older hard drive, this is what I do.

HDDs are still expensive given the recent turmoil and your HDD should be fine, although like others said slower. If you have bought a load of new components you may find it drags them down a bit so to speak but I hardly think it's going to ruin the experience for you.

Personally I would either get an SSD as whilst they are expensive its not really got anything to do with the floods and they aren't bad value these days for what they are. Regular mechanical drive I would wait a bit yet, 1TB are massively over priced, 2TB just about worth buying but likely to be cheaper in a few months time.
