Ah yeah good old MSN Messenger. It was great and MS messed up badly in recent years with the whole Skype focus. We use Lync at work, which is rubbish, and Skype for Business is still not as good as MSN Messenger was. It's ridiculous really.
Who here remembers Microsoft Comic Chat? That was hilarious! It was basically just a fancy graphical client for IRC. Turned the conversation into a comic strip. I fondly remember trolling it. It was brilliant because you could dominate the comic strip if you were capable of typing quickly. Few seemed to be at the time and were reluctant to take charge. Very fond memories of it. Remember getting a girl's number off it once and she called me. We spoke for 30 secs or so and then it went silent lol and we hung up. Felt so bizarre and novel at the time. It was pre internet dating and felt kind of naughty.
