Don't laugh.
Got old rig. See sig. Only SATA 3Gb/s. Or PCIe x4.
Is it worth putting a SSD? I'm new to SSD. Got RAID0 1Tb atm.
Would just need 1 x 250Gb drive for Windows 7.
This is just to give a bit more life to my PC.
Just about to swap out the 6600 to a Xeon 5450 as well.
Please be as helpfully as possible, as I don't know much about SSD.

I would say its still worth getting one, I have a I7 950, 6GB of ram etc and I am using the sata 2 ports.

I get read and write speeds of 280mb and still makes a vast improvement over a HDD and this will only improve once I move it to a new system when the time comes.

I personally found it well worth doing. It was only two little cuts to the socket surround tabs with a craft knife and a tiny sticker on the cpu. I went fro a q6600 @ 3.4ghz to an x5460 @ 4.2ghz. Not a bad increase.

I did this with my C2D (E8400) about 4 years ago. Other than the slow post that my Asus P5K-E wifi had, I can't tell the difference in how the computer 'felt' compared to my complete system upgrade last July. I even reused the SSD for my new upgrade (only this week replaced it) :D

Upgrading from HD to SSD (provided it's used as your OS drive) will make a really noticeable difference to your PC, particularly in terms of boot times and application startup.

Benchmarks suggest you won't see any real differences in real world performance even when limited by a SATA II 3Gb/s interface.

So, Would this be worth it?
