For an old MS Access database which seems to be bottlenecked by disk I/O. I can only scrounge old hardware in the office for this. So would I see any significant improvement with a old 10k Raptor 36GB single or raid, over some thing like a

WD800BB 80GB 7200 RPM 2MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100

or

160GB WDC WD1600AAJS-7 (7200 RPM 8MB I think) SCSI on Dell SAS 5/iR controller

The original Raptor used its own brand of command queueing which was supposedly quite good for server/database performance *provided* it was coupled to a controller that fully supported it, but in the real world I reckon your SCSI drive would be a better bet, even with the lower RPM.

I guess suck it and see would be the best advice here. :)
