Hi all. So atm my old rig consists of an i5 2500k running at stock clocks, radeon 6970, 16gb ram and an azrock motherboard.
Now I'm going to upgrade all of it bit by bit as I can afford it. But I thought I'm going to try and buy a 2070 super from black friday deals. Question is if I put that in my old rig what kind of bottlenecking would i expect/is it worth just building it all when I get the parts kinda thing.

Thank you.

you would get a major bottleneck.

not saying its not worth it but oyu've lasted this long with that rig do you need to make such a massive leap? im assuming you're using a 1080p monitor @ 60hz

you could build an entire rig for a little more than the cost of the 2070 super alone. which would be more than adequate for 1080p 60hz gaming.

if making the leap to the 2070 super id also suggest a 1440p 144hz or even 4k screen to go along with it.

Eventually I'll be going for the whole shabang. 144hz monitor etc.
At the moment I've just got it plugged into my 55inch tv at 1080 I think the tv can only handle 60hz but not sure if that's the tv or 6970.
I've been console gaming the last few years with only playing mobas on the pc, but want to get back into the pc gaming side.

I want to go ryzen this time for gaming. Reckon it would be better for processor and motherboard on black friday or vise versa? That's if there is any good deals.

some real good deals on both to be honest.

its really one of those catch 22 situations though. it all needs updating but neither will give a massive gain without the other.

for under 500

3600
msi tomahawk
16gb 3200mhz ram
550 superflower gold psu
256gb m.2 ssd
1td hdd
(just need a case & windows)

for £150 you could get an AMD 590 or £200 will get you a 1660 super.

yes its lower than the 2070 super that you want but you'd want around £1500 - £2000 for a suitable rig with monitor etc..

its a tricky one.

the setup above would be more than adequate for 1080p with either of those GPU's. if in future you wanted to drop in a better GPU you could recoup some of the costs and sell the old GPU

Ahh thank for the advice. Might be time to do the tax return haha.
haha. its a tricky one really.

without going the whole hog you have 2 options.

1. lower spec but useable.
2. high end parts and buying as and when funds are available. (issue being new bit get released all the time)
