Hello!

I'm wanting to upgrade my old computer so it can run some of the newer games I just haven't had the time to play (or a capable computer on which to do so!) Here is what I have at the moment:

- Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L (rev. 3.3) motherboard
- Intel Q6600 G0 SLACR at stock 2.4ghz (with Thermalright 120 Ultra extreme heatsink)
- ATI Radeon Sapphire hd 3850
- 2gb Corsair XMS2-6400 DDR2
- Akasa 500W psu

I've got a budget of £100-£200 to try and turn it into a fairly decent Gaming rig, but I'm not sure how best to go about that or what would work. Ideally id like to be able to keep the motherboard and processor, with my budget I don't think a complete upgrade would be possible!

Any and all advice would be much appreciated!!

Thank you!

Upgrade the graphics card - something like a gtx 770 would be good and buy it second hand, you should be able to get one for around £110

Spend the rest on an ssd if you don't already have one

And overclock that q6600 !

Edit - having another look at your spec it might be worth putting the remaining budget on more ram - aim for 8gb

I added one for a short time to a really old piece of crap, it made the pile of turd actually usable.

The 2GB RAM will not help.

You will also need to check how much room your case has inside for a GFX card.

What model exactly is the PUS?

I've just upgraded from a Q6600 (@3.4Ghz) with an 7870XTv2 to an I7-4790K with the same card.

If you can overclock that Q6600 to 3.2'ish or more, simply plug in as good a graphics card as you can, and you'll be set with a machine that will run pretty damn well! You'll need a bit more ram :)

Thanks for all the replies!

I've heard good things about ssd, although if i'm just using the Rig for gaming would a smaller capacity like 250gb be ideal?

Ok, Graphics and RAM! Any tips on somewhere to buy decent second hand components other than somewhere like Ebay or Gumtree?

The 2GB RAM will not help.

From what I can gather the PSU is an Akasa PaxPower P050fg7: http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?t...lies&type_sub=Main Stream&model=AK-P050FG7-BK

Would I also need to upgrade that? (it only has 2 6pin PCI-express power connectors)

I've had a look from PCI-E slot to bottom (8cm) 25cm in terms of length and 12cm from Slot to side of case. I hear the GTX 770 is a substantial card although I couldn't find the dimensions for the card so i'm not sure if it would fit?

Each card is different, so what ever card in particular you are looking at you will find the dimensions on the manufacture website.

PSU seems ok, has 2x 6pin PCI-E so that is a surprising number of cards you can use.
