Guys,
before i go through the hassle of trying to advertise, do any of you think there is a used market for:
- HP Proliant GL160 G5 Storaegserver with a
- HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 Ultrium448 Tape autoloader

The bay doesn't seem to think so, but just wondered what your thoguhts are on this type of kit in the used market, as there must be loads of companies like us that upgrade, virtualise then have redundant kit just sitting there doing nothing.

Thanks for any opinions offered.

Business's wont touch them due to no warranty and they are to loud/power hungry for the home enthusiast.

You might be able to sell to a company that refurbishes the units but they wont pay more than Ebay prices.

It really is a shame that such expensive hardware is so worthless.
Ourselves are in the process of junking 6 servers due to there lack of 64bit processors, if they had 64bit capability we could potentially still use them for dev/testing but as it is a cheap desktop does this better and cheaper.

If the server is ESXi 4.1 compatible it will command a bit more though, so worth trying :)

Probably the spec and your realistic expectations on pricing.

It's now discontinued, and might be expensive to source RAM upgrades and spare parts.

Might tbe worth researching companies that specialise in refurbed units and sell to them?

You could try the pricing thread in MM but I suspect that the price is way above normal members pockets?

EDIT

dang! partially Ninja'd ... lol

There's lots of firms that take in old hardware and refurb them. Not sure how much they offer so do a google search on computer recyclers, etc.

I am interested in the server for work, how much you want for the DL160 and what are the actual specs (memory, cpu, SATA/SAS, RAID, etc) ? I'm not sure what the rules are in regards to this as its not in the member's market.
