Old skool: What was your first 3D card and game?

First 3D game

Orchid Kelvin 64 - Doom :D

Firsts non software rendered 3D game.

Ati Rage Pro, Quake or unreal cant remember which

Power VR!! That's what I had before my voodoo II. I couldn't remember what it was. It came with Ultimate racing, the graphics were out of this world!!

I had one of those as well, I purchased both the Power VR and 3Dfx Voodoo 1 at the same time as I couldn't decide which one was better...

You could run them both in the same PC as the Power VR didn't require a pass through cable and someone wrote a small tray util for Windows 95 that allowed you to switch between 3Dfx or Power VR for D3D games.. Glide or Power VR native games didn't need such a util.

Power VR could run games with 3D enabled in a Window. The 3Dfx couldn't do this..

3Dfx had the advantage over Power VR (it was actually called 3Dx) and the Power VR card I had saw very little usage. I was offered a free upgrade to the Power VR 3DxII as the first card couldn't handle bilinear filtering which was a huge oversight by Videologic and NEC.

given the choices again, I'd buy a 3Dfx over the Power VR and wasted a few hundred pounds on the Power VR. the only advantage the Power VR had over the more power 3Dfx was the fact you didn't need a VGA pass through cable to a 2D card, other then this... I remember playing Ultimate race and yeah it was good, but Quake etc on the 3Dfx was much better...

My first 3d card was an orchid righteous voodoo II 12mb and on the day I bought it I also bought Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. I also got Incoming and G-Police free with the card.

Canopus 3dfx add on card with matrix mystique to play quake open gl ctf on a 17" iiyama proview CRT, showed it off at a lanparty at my house to my friends, 4 of whom bought the same cards first thing Monday morning.

I think I had a Diamond Monster 3D 3dfx Voodoo1 4MB card. Whatever card, it was around 1996 and the first games were Quake and Tomb Raider.

Game you've never heard of called Barrage.

4mb rage pro... course few days after, in pop'd a voo 2 12mb to play Battlezone:)

Gullimot, or whoever they were.. sold at game for 140 i think.. fuzzy:O

Orchid Righteous 3D 3Dfx Voodoo 1 for me too, loved it.

If I remember right it cost £200 even 'back then'? My paper round paid quite well it seems!

I bought a Voodoo 3 3000 PCI that went into a HP Vectra P233MMX (I think it was under clocked to 166 as it kept overheating) with 32MB RAM. I was finally able to play UT and Lego Racers smoothly... well mostly.

I did have a generic 8MB 3D, most likely SiS, I bought first but it didn't work with this machine.
