I've got an old mATX 775 board; with one of the silly hot P4 thingemehs in it...

Im wondering if its likely to be bios upgradable to support a nice cool c2d for a media center box. I would tell you the model number; except it doesnt seem have one :p. Its from a Fujitsu oem pc.

Im just curious as to whether this is remotely possible; if so i'll go spend the time trying to identify & update the board, if not... well i've saved myself a good couple of hours :)

It depends on the chipset some later 945 chipset boards can run Core2Duo's with just a BIOS update, as can some 975X boards. Likewise, some VIA and SIS chipsets can be flashed to the requisite standard (especially for the 800MHz Core2Duo's). In general though, the answer is no, they can't.

What about this board?

I have an Abit AW8 LGA775 with 955X chipset. Does anyone know what is the fastest processor I could put on it?

Right now I think it is a D940 3.2. I built this machine just before the core 2 duos came out :(

Would I be better off going with the Intel chipset?

Also, the RAM is Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT 'TwinX' is this going to be compatible with one of the current mobos or will that be an issue?

Many Thanks,

That is very unlikely to be the RAM as DDR RAM doesn't work in the AW8. It's DDR2.
