More than likely been covered on here before so sorry if repeating topics...
I have a gigabyte aorus ss ips 240hz 1440p monitor which looks great. 4+years old from when I bought it.
Is it worth upgrading to a oled monitor?
Is games that much better in oled to other types on monitors.

The colours are so much better with OLED (they just pop), do you work at all on your monitor?

There are OLED care features but burn in is still really in 2025.

just not sure what one to go for if i do decide lol. too many choices!

Most of them use the same panels anyway.

It might be worth you waiting for the 2025 offerings at this point, shouldn't be too long before they're out.

Make sure you get one with some OLED care features and burn-in warranty, that's basically standard now for new panels. For gaming OLED cannot be beaten.

just game on main and use second monitor for things like youtube ect.
All good for gaming. Most companies use the same panel so look for features that you really want.

E.g. My old OLED had to have: ultrawide, 34”, 240Hz, KVM switch and built in speakers. Which helped me to narrow down my selection at the time.

With your specs you could comfortaly go for a 360hz 1440p OLED - but obviously depends what games you play too as to whether you can drive that. 480hz 1440p is also an option too!

You could also look at the newer 4k 240hz OLEDs too - MSI, Asus and Alienware all have 27" versions and there's 32" larger ones too - as the 9070XT is pretty great at 4k (especially with FSR4 now!).

I'm currently using a 27" 240hz 4k from Alienware, although I've been tempted more recently to swap back to 1440p (or run both in dual monitors and swap depending on what I want to get out of the game I'm playing).

I'm waiting for OLED monitors to be able to show text clear as LCD.

I have that problem. Although it's possible to largely clear up the text fringing, Microsoft STILL have not addressed the issue, and it's especially important for multi-monitor setups, like mine.

OLED is for gaming. IPS is for business.

Your old monitor won't look great, by the way. When you put it next to a new OLED you will be shocked.

This is my dilemma too. I WFH as a software developer, and really can't afford to have any eye-strain issues. Some say it's not an issue, but I don't really want to take the chance. It wouldn't even be a topic of conversation if it didn't affect some monitors/people worse than others.

Instead, I'm interested in Dell's (and others now I think. BenQ maybe?) IPS Black technology. The Dell U4025QW is a 40", 5K, 120Hz IPS display with ~2000:1 contrast. The next gen (some screens already available I think, but not in that size/res yet) should have ~3000:1. Expensive, as so-called "professional" monitors often are, but that's the one I've got my eye on.

Have to say I'm not such a big OLED fan - I had a 43" QD VA alongside a 50" OLED at one point and in well made 4K HDR content the QD VA just looked more real and doesn't have the same considerations of pixel maintenance. For gaming and general use (I do a fair bit of programming, etc.) I'm sticking with my TN Dell.

That reinforces my belief that current OLED's are not good enough for both gaming and work.

I think OLEDs are closer to the perfect "do everything" monitor, but people are terrified of burn-in.

As the price comes down, people will care less. And the price has come down about 25% since I last bought one.

I use mine for both! My AW2725Q is used as a full work monitor in the day and then gaming in the evening/weekends - no issues at all. I have a 3 year warranty with Dell which I would use if I ever got burn in or any issues, I hide my desktop icons (don't tend to bother with task bar) and then just use it like a regular monitor.

It definitely varies from person to person as to how comfortable you are with it - but I also tend to upgrade my monitors every 3 or so years anyway as the tech moves.

To be fair the QD VA also has pixel layout issues with text but I wasn't using either for productivity anyhow, but it does reduce their usefulness for me personally in that respect (it also has problems with some of the design software I use).

That would be a pain in the rear for me, though my regular use involves a lot of static content to the point even some TNs, etc. have image retention issues although temporary rather than a burn in danger like OLED.

I think you could happily have desktop icons if you wanted, it's something I never did even before having an OLED monitor. I've always kept everything in folders or in the start menu so never really used it anyway - it's just one of the typical suggestions for preventing against burn-in on an OLED monitor.

If you're just using the monitor for gaming, then I would go OLED. I bought an OLED monitor about about 4 months ago and I am very happy with it, I came from a IPS gaming monitor and colours are far better. Also I never used HDR in games till I got an OLED, which also makes a difference in games. The other night I was playing Fortnite with my son, he had a problem. So I went up to have a look and the first thing I noticed when I looked at his screen was how dull the colours were compared to my OLED, he has an 34" ultra wide VA monitor.
