Olympic Athletics

Commentators starting to annoy me with saying the GB athletes are in the right position for long races no matter whether they're sitting 1st, 3rd or last like they are in the 1500m atm.

We came 10th and 11th lol.

Thats cause their hungry for gold! Gold, gold and more gold!

So they dont wanna hear that our guys arnt even in with a shout. A team GB guy/gal could drop dead at the starting block and they'd still claim they were in with a shot.

How the **** does our relay team manage to mess up so many times. You'd think with all the training it would become 2nd nature to them. Other teams seem to cope fine.

Great run by the 4 x 100m women. New WR. Very fast. Apparently the East German women held that record for decades, so went to youtube to see their record - it was impressive (although likely to be drug assisted).

I also took a look at Flo Jo, whose World Record 100m has stood since 1988.

Now, she looked pretty relaxed in that race, but it just goes to show how good she was (even if she was drug assisted). 24 years later and that record still stands - nobody can get remotely close to it.

Here's a nice thread about Flo Jo and her World Record:

I spent a few hours researching Flo Jo and I do find it strange that she quit running after she had just had her best season ever. It makes no sense to me.

Anyway, back to 2012...I'm expecting big things from Mo Farrah. I hope he wins.

...and once again - outstanding run by the womens 4 x 100m quartet. They don't necessarily have the fastest runners, but their changeovers were so good, they ran the World Record.

The mens 50K race walk just started about 5 minutes ago. Pretty weird to watch. They basically have to power walk the whole way? If they all go at the same speed, how are the ones that started at the back meant to catch up and overtake?
