Isn't the Olympic Flame usually displayed in a more promenant position? Are there plans to move it from inside the stadium for track and field? A bit of a fudge if you ask me :o
 
It's currently in the state of being reallocated. BBC News at ten had a piece on it, as it's obviously a lot of work to strip the stadium. Many performers were leaving with bits of the set.
 
I heard that they won't be having the flame on display outside the stadium i.e. you'll need to have a stadium ticket just to see it which is pretty disappointing.
 
So we have an amazing olympic flame but nobody can see it, surely this would be the first consideration when building an olympic flame. All we get is a poor underneith shot on the TV. How disappointing.
 
I read somewhere yesterday that it's being moved to the platform where Bradley Wiggins run the bell during the opening ceremony.
 
Pretty silly, what I really found hilarious though was when it got picked up on by the media, Coe said "Having it only viewable to the park on big screens, we believe, adds to the intimacy" - What?!

I think the turnout has been absolutly fantastic

One of the reasons this was not done so that the stadium can be reused after the Olympics. A prominent staging area for the flame reduces seating capacity. My understanding is that the platform for the flame is temporary so that it can be removed once the games finish.

I agree that we should allow as many people as possible to view the flame considering its significance. I was at Athen in 2004 and the flame was visible to anyone once they were inside the Olympic Park area. They also had similar issues with a large number of empty seats as the "Olympic Family" did not attend many events. Seems a huge waste given they could be selling these tickets to help offset the cost of the games.

I do have to say, I am annoyed with the empty seats matter - it's rather annoying that the people who are 'involuntarily' paying for the games didn't get the chance.

It's wrong but no one the top seems to be willing to deal with it. They should put in a system whereby each country can apply for tickets and if there are seats leftover sell them to the public.
 
Wasn't the Olympic Flame at the last winter olympics in Vancouver moved from the stadium after the opening ceremony to outside?

Plus they had a secondary flame that was of the same design burning on the waterfront in Vancouver. That obviously became a huge tourist attraction but also drew controversy because they had to put up a huge fence around it to protect it.

I've got admit I think I'm a little disappointed as although I'm going to the park, I'm not going in the stadium. Once the Olympics are over, the cauldron will have to relocated to somewhere else in the park, so why didn't they just plan to do that now instead?
