** Olympic Torch Relay Thread **

Wow. The kid on the bike just looked like he was cycling along and minding his own business and then the security guy just pulled him out in front of the car WTF?
 
Seems a bit heavy handed but I suppose they don't know what they could be dealing with so being extra careful.

It went through Winchester today and was fantastic. Sun was out, people were in the streets in their thousands. There was music, decorations, party atmosphere and no incident I could see (there were hobos swearing at everyone passing though). Nice to see people smiling for a change. Took loads of photos and got myself a flag!
 
Olympic torch passes through Beckenham! I'm pretty sure it was Paula Radcliffe running ahead of the torch, but I wasn't quick enough to get a picture!

So I went along to see it yesterday:

What a great atmosphere and so many people turned out. You could feel the excitement in the air as it approached. Now I can’t wait for the games to start!
 
Torch came through my town today. Policeman shouted at me "WAIT HERE!" with a stern look. I was like 'OK :eek:' . I was stopped in the middle of the road in my car but eventually parked up in a loading bay. Awesome atmosphere.:)

 
Someone from my old school was carrying it this morning :)

Why there hell is there so many vehicles leading, following the torch.. The hell :o I like the BMWs :)

Although I've not seen it myself yet... planning to see it come through Islington tomorrow morning.

I believe the other vehicles include a Police vehicle which goes ahead, presumably to ensure the route is safe and warn people its coming. There is a camera vehicle which is providing the video feed. A couple more BMWs which have the mascots in, but likely also more Police. The main bus which I believe has all the support staff and possibly some torch bearers on it. The remaining vehicles I believe belong to sponsors Coca-Cola and Samsung.

Nice pictures. :)

The atmosphere was one of the highlights of our one. Apart from the cops in the parade car(s) we had no visible policing of the crowd and that was great to see. I'm glad I made the effort to see it.
