Omega drivers or Catalyst drivers?

I am currently running Catalyst 6.2 drivers but I am tempted to try out the Omega drivers as they allegedly offer better performance?

Are they BETA drivers and if so are they risky to use?
What are people's opinions on using them and are they generally stable in use?
Also are the performance gains worthwhile?

I currently have the Radeon Omega Drivers 3.8.221 (Catalyst 6.2) downloaded but not installed yet as I am awaiting feedback before I go ahead.

Thanks in advance :)

I used to use the Omega drivers but suffered from problems with them in certain games. Battlefield 2 would become unplayable after playing it for a few minutes and then eventually freeze... so I switched back to using the ATI drivers:)

(Although that wasn't the 6.2's... that was an earlier version, so any problems might have been sorted)

Street, thanks for the feedback :)

So there are 'issues' then but perhaps only game related as opposed to general problems?

I wonder if they are digitally signed (i.e. WHQL) like the Catalyst drivers are?
I suppose the only way to find out is to actually install them

Let me know what you think Curly, I amjust about to do the same thing ( have to wait til broadband is working in my new flat first)

Ive got the new 6.2's and there a great deal better than the Catalysts, games look tremendously better, and AA and AF look better than the Catalyst counterparts.

I have had no issues with them apart from being to good! :) use them!

People tend to have varying results with the different driver sets, as with everything.
It would also depend on what release you use and what card you have as too how much of a difference you see.
Most of the tweaks made in the omegas that actually make a difference can be done manually to the ati cats, there is info out there.
I used the omegas for quite some time without issues but have recently gone back to the ati set when I got a new card.
Give them a go, don't forget to use driver cleaner.

I use em. :)

Not much different than ATi's but games always seem to run that extra bit smoother and it gives you peace of mind that you are getting literaly 100% out of your card (apart from overclocking ;) )

ive just tried the omega drivers and had loads of weird stuff going on when i started playing bf2 ??? like coruption or summat. the xg warcats seemed slower than the officials in bf2 also, so it looks like im sticking with the 6.2 cats for now... maybe sometime in the future though. :(

I've always found the Omegas as stable as anything, and would always use them over the official ATIs. In some circumstances (Older games) they also give me considerably better performance.
Personal preference & card TBH.

I have a few old games and they appear to work okay with the Omega drivers as well.
Off the top of my head, Commanche 4 :o

I've been using the Omegas for the last year, keeping up to date with the newest version, only the ones based on the 5-11's (think so anyway) gave me any problem, that was with BF2, but that was fixed for the next version.

Think about it this way, NO CCC!!!

I've just started using Omega Drivers for the first time this week i havent had any problems so far & have been really happy with them i have noticed a small improvement in playing COD2 & Tray tools is really cool too :D

Also i have used ATI tool in the past to clock my cards is it ok to use it with Omega drivers ?? or should i use Tray tools ?

6.2 omega

3dmark01 - 25600

this is on my system in sig.

the thing with the later drivers is that they only benefit new cards.
