No such thing as a 'cheap' Omega.

in which sense?

dont see how it could cost much more than the vectra to replace bits? nsurance is little more and tax is same!

Big V6 engine, most are automatic, more expensive to repair, etc.

Although I'd rather have a £1k Omega and fix it three times a month than a £6k Xsara Picasso so it may make sense :)

Epic cars, but dont get that crap one, get a 3.0 auto elite or dont bother. All will break and cost to fix, but the 3.0 elite is actually a very very nice car. And im not even talking for the money, they are genuinely as good as a lot of expensive kit.

What he said. Charming cars, unloved in their day and an absolute bargain if you want a cheap cruiser.

I went from a £460 Omega to a £26000 A6 and I still miss the Omega.

Thats becuase you got an A6 2.0 TDI :p

That's part of it but it's more the general feel of the Omega. It doesn't handle at all and it doesn't pretend to. It's softer than a Linux nerd in a bare knuckle fight but it has plenty of go (assuming V6), a silky smooth auto box, fantastic soundtrack, a weird looking but brilliant interior...

Ahh bloody hell

Whats wrong with us having a 2litre?

She does 70 miles a week mainly shopping / pottering around

I just drive it 2/3 times a month when we go out! She doesnt want to go like a bat out of hell so it seems fine. Also its the same sort of 0-60 as the vectra and thats done us fine speed/over taking wise.

However the 2.5 is only an extra £50 pa on insurance (vs 2.0)

3.0 is £200 pa (vs 2.0) so a little too much

Also it seems it has to be an auto again :(.

2 litre Omega. :p

As for why? I'm stumped.

Well really just want to get a cheapish car (cash) and the choices are;

1) Overpriced (not market but from my POV) R/S/T 1.6e Scenic for £1500+

2) W/X/Y 1.4 SR Scenic for £2500+ (over price vs parkers but they all seem to be)

3) A £6-800 omega

I totally understand what you mean and this is why i love the mercedes so much, the s-class genuinely feels like a huge much better quality more luxurious omega - it has exactly the same feel just amplified 10 fold :) Omega's are brilliant cars, nothing else can get close to them for even 3-4 times the money.

Great cars. Old man has the 2.5 V6 auto and runs like a dream. Used for towing the caravan and hardly any problems with it. Very comfy to drive and sounds very nice.

Auntie has the 2litre same shape as that and still very nice to drive but theres no ooomph the same as the v6.

The 2.5 V6's are available quite readily in manual, at least they were when i got mine (for some unknown reason i wanted a manual at the time and 3.0 manuals virtually dont exist). The 2.5 engine is exactly the same to drive and sounds the same as the 3.0, it just lacks a bit of high end punch that the 3.0 has, if the insurance is more then simply get the 2.5, its a fine engine and more than adequate for the car.

The 2.0 is ok, but its too small really, the omega is a big luxurious cruiser, too big for a 2.0 16v engine. The V6's are reliable (as long as they are serviced - GET A NEW CAMBELT) and the cars they are found in are usually well kitted. Much better option.
