Hey
I'm 21 in a month and my parents have asked me what i want. I have asked for a watch.
I REALLY REALLY love the look of the Omega Seamaster/speedmaster watches but are they really worth £1000+, the one i am currently looking at is http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/6473113/

It's a watch i will keep for years (my dad still has his from when he was 21) will it keep time well? I have quite skinny wrists so would a watch like this look silly?

Would it be best to go for a cheaper watch around £200?

Before anybody shouts up with 'SPOILT BRAT' i'm going to pay for most of the watch as i don't WANT my parents to spend that much on me.

Lucky boy, I never recieved anything like that on my 21st but good luck with it, try get the watch you like or its a pointless point you make.

If I were spending £1000+ on a watch I'd want it to be an automatic. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't see the quartz movement in that Omega being anything special and that is what, for me personally, having the watch is about - knowing I have a thing of beauty and a great piece of craftsmanship on my arm.

I bought my Seamaster from Rotty, and I love it :)

[edit]I wouldn't want the Quartz for anything like that cash either.

Never seen James Bond wearing the black Seamaster :/

This

Quarz movement :(

don't go quartz on a high end watch but do go high end, it will last you a lifetime which is what you want from a 21st birthday present

I got a Planet Ocean about a month ago, this model:

And I love it. It's automatic and has never ran out of juice even when I've been playing a full day of sports with it off (48 hrs reserve). I wear it daily to work (office job) and apart from the clasp on the back - a known scratch zone, it's 100% scratch-free and I've knocked it a few times.

I wouldn't get a Quartz but that's just my preference just because I appreciate the co-axial mechanism underneath. I chose the Planet Ocean model just because it was bigger (45mm) than the normal Seamaster which looked pretty small on my wrist - bit more expensive though.

I got mine brand new in Kuala Lumpur from a high-street authorised dealer for just over £1,700.

Ahh as you can tell i am a watch biff. I know NOTHING about the watch i posted apart from i really like the look of it.....dam shexy.

Quartz? Automatic? Argh?

u've got the chrono version of the planet ocean and love it, its a very chunky watch though so be sure that you are happy with it before you get one

I've also got a speedmaster for days when i want something less bulky or my wrist is tired.

buying a cheap quartz watch is sensible if you need a watch

buying an expensive quartz watch is buying jewellery

buying a good auto is buying a piece of clever engineering (which will see less depreciation) and will last for generations if you look after it

Quartz is fine but I don't see the point in buying quartz at this level.

Some of you need to read the OP, he's not 'asking' for one from his parents, they're not buying it him, he said he's putting up most of the money..

My Dad has a Seamaster, it is an absolutely great looking watch and feels top quality.

It is also, bizarrely, the worst timekeeper of any timepeice any of us have ever used
