OMG! 1070 still underperforming??

and the temps got to 71 on MSI AB with only 46% fan speed, so really pleased at the cooling so far...which i thought would be a disaster tbh..

Cpu is the issue with Arma, I know, I've tested them all on that game, fx 4100 to fx8350, the game is extremely cpu intensive, but only wants two fast cores as its not multithreaded.

If it's a game you really want to get stuck into, I'd move to Intel and the best cpu you can get your hands on.

Try running 3Dmark fire strike and compare only your graphics score to others using similar clocks.

running fine here on a 6700k and 390 completely maxed, apart from the view distances which are set to around 6k for overall and 1.8k for object. getting on average around 60fps, sometimes a bit lower depending on the map/mod. what are you advanced startup parameters set to? do you have a custom memory allocator selected etc

hey again guys,

im still having trouble with my FPS. In CSGO im getting 80-100fps. this is at 1080p also. It has to be surely my FX 8350 holding it back? would i notice a big difference on intel platform? im considering a switch over as this GPU, my results are just not good enough..

anything i can try that might be in settings or whatever?

i am real tempted by a 2500k or 2600k, surely with the money from a 8350 and mobo, i can get a good price on it. And surely a better CPU for gaming than the 8350?

hey guys,

just been playing cs and my GPU load on my 1070 is around 40-50% and the CPU load is peaking at 100% :(

is that the bottlenecking I'm getting in games?

Yes, the FX 8350 is weaker than most seem to think it is in games.

However now is a bad time to buy a replacement. You have AMD Zen and Intel Kaby Lake releasing in about 3 months (possibly less).

IPC is still king in the majority of games, so the i7 Kaby Lake will likely be the best chip for gaming.

However if the 6 core Zen turns out to be ~10% behind in IPC but the same price as the 4-core i7, then I'd go for the Zen most likely.

hey @AllBodies

thanks for the reply mate, yeah i thought as much :( i will do as you and others advise, hold out till end of year and see where we are at..sticking with the 8350 for now.

Yeah it won't be too long of a wait, and you just managed to pick very CPU intensive games :P

In a lot of games the 8350 is still fine, just not suited to high frame rate monitors or games that are very single-core heavy.
