OMG LOL cheapie antennae really work! Improve your wireless signal free NOW!!!

Directional :(

Only antennae I would want would be omnis. Also I agree that anything leading to an increase in signal strength will give higher speeds (less retransmissions as I understand it) assuming of course that the link isn't already at full speed.

Now, if there was a guide to making cheap omnis that'd be great. I've yet to find any and all the premade ones cost too much to be worth it since the only advantage would be being to use wifi outside of our property  (nevermind security I think that would be pretty cool though useless).

although fundamentally directional, ive found that it still covers a huge area. if you imagine a standard triangle one point being the router. The distance in a straight line between the other 2 points is around 100M thats not that directional tbh but i would reccommend it on the reciever computer end tbh

ROFL. I got a bit bored and tried this. Used papr and some tin foil with pritt stick.

Before this, my laptop would connect at 48Mbps, now it connects at 54Mbps. Cheers.

Yep, i get full speed connection now although it still shows up as being a Low connection. Oh well, that's still better than a Very Low connection i suppose :)

I was considering buying a wireless range booster for £50 before i saw this post, thanks dude

You mean it will allow you to get closer to the maximum speed that the equipment is rated at, because the signal strength and or quality is improved.

If you check the speed your getting though i doubt there has been much of an increase even if your connection states an increase.

Mine went from 2-4mb sec to 24-56mb sec. Makes no diffrence to the internet speed as its only a shared 2mb line but makes huge diff to print sharing, remote admin, file transfers and general stability. I think its cracking and obviously a few peeps agree

Its worth a shot. I made 2. 1 using cereal-box card + tinfoil and another with packing card (thicker)

Cereal box card one works great, other one not so good (foil not smooth enough)

Gonna go pick up some chinese cookware soon to make THIS wooooo :D

omg!

lol, i have several of these doing nothing in the kitchen :D

Ok, im going to try this out too.

One question - how big should I make it? Dont know whether to stretch the image over A4 or just print it as is. it says "the squares are 4.8"" across, but they dont look like squares to me - they look like rectangles. any help?

This could be a right bonus, I have a pc in my garage at the other end of the garden that has a wlan adapter on it but it only occasionally picks up my wlan signal.. this should be just enough to give it a permanent connection :)

Thats exactly what itrs for.

Hungryhungry - dont worry too much few mil here and there wont be a prob, try to print as "as is" as poss. Open it in paint or summink and print.

Something like this was on Braniac (TV Show), they used tin foil to improve mobile phone reception.

Is it possible to modify a Sky Digital Mini dish to work as a bluetooth antenna? We have one going to waste and I need more coverage :(. My Physics is a bad as my maths so all that wavelength and calculting the distance from dish confuses me!
