OMG my worst purchase so far

I believe with windows 7 and the apu boards you need to install sata drivers when prompted. Its been quite some time since I built my uncle an apu based media centre.

There is no reason for it to be awfully slow, alright the case and psu etc may be utter garbage but the apu is perfectly capable for what she wants!

Yes, but they paid £1500 (he said "tonne and a half") and I would have expected better than his experience. For a comparison, I bought a rig from OcUK for £550 that was a pre-build. It was a Shuttle system with Phenom X2 550, 4GB, 1TB, HD4850, blu-ray drive, loaded with Win 7 Home, 4 years ago in 2009.

lol PICNIC. I thought it was only my company that said that word. Certainly the first time I've heard that in 4-5 years :-)

A Tonne is a £100, not £1000.

Well, her new ( with old guts ) is now running sweet as a nut.

Similarly, I have been twiddling about again with that APU thingy. Its running quite nicely I have to say now, but enough is enough.

The PSU is clearly junk, thats now gone. The HD is weirdly annoying in that no HD that I have tried, will work with it except the one that came with it? - I have however managed to plop another 2 400GB IDE Drives and use Software RAID, and at the moment, its kind of running well-ish.

I have found another issue with the board, that is now making me happy that its not PEBCAK and that is that the USB ports sometimes switch off for no reason. Irritatingly, the system does not make a connect / disconnect sound when this happens either? - the devices just stop working.

I only really found this out today because I have been using a Wireless keyboard with built in mouse thingy and I assumed that the thing was just rubbish, but I have 3 of the buggers and they are all doing it, so I used a wired keyboard and that did the same.

So, even USB is rubbish on it.

I have however been playing a load of programs just fine for the last 4 hours and its not done anything problematic, so who knows... Might be a chance to have some use out of it still.

I might just keep my eyes out for a replacement Mobo cos I am certainly impressed at the speed of the GFX on this for on board stuff... I might also twit about with hybrid crossfire if it will do it... I know couple of my old AMD boards do it.
