Hey all

Ok i'm at my wits end my core duo upgrade has been half finished for a while now. I really need to sort it out because its doing my head in!

Basically my gigabyte ds4 dislikes running in dual channel.

My spec:
Tagan 480w psu
core 2 duo 6400 - Arctic freezer
Gigabyte DS4
2gb Mushkin XP2 5300 DDR2
x1800xt
leadtek tv card
xfi extreme music
sata drives - 80/160/200
sata dvdrw
floppy

ok so when i have one memory stick in the system works fine with stock volts running through the ram. If i increase the voltage the system is more likely to crash. If i add the other stick of ram it will crash on start up whether it is with stock volts or @ the manufacturers recommended voltage.

I thought it was the ram so i ordered - Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) and it arrived today. But the problem still occurs. I'm only able to boot up with one stick of that memory in.

I'm just wondering what the problem is! It seems to be the motherboard right? Could it be a power issue?

I'm using the f5 bios atm.

cheers

I've just built a very similar machine and mine's fine with 1GB of Corsair Value Select 5300 RAM (okay, once I got past the pre-POST start/stop loop and was able to flash the BIOS to F5). I doubt it's a power problem with a decent 480W PSU but have you tried taking out the extra cards and HDDs to reduce the overall load? Presumably you've tried both pairs of DIMM sockets and using both DIMMs in non-dual channel mode?

yeah i've tried it minus the 2 hds and pci cards and it still has a problem.

I'm thinking its the motherboard so i might buy another board just to see what the problem is, any recommendations? Ds3?
