Hey,

Edit out your competitor name mate, however the place you mentioned it is not 199 quid. However, it is £199.73 elsewhere.

Edit : And as if by magic his post vanished! ;)

Funny that the competitor mentioned told a customer of theirs that Overclockers took all the stock and they cannot complete any orders and they are recommending that their customers buy from OcUK.

Or at least thats what a customer who phoned OcUK said yesterday :) They seem to have stock now listed on their website but they are £30 more than my price.

Also the price of £199.73 doesn't have any stock.

Hey Ace,

I rang them today and I was told - whether this happens or not - that they are getting stock on the date the site says.

If they don't i'll ocuk it! :)

Fair enough, lets hope that if you order from there then the snow doesn't cause any delays for you to get it for Xmas.

Hey Ace,

Rest assured I'll order here before there, but just waiting to see what money I've got when the bank balance finally changes!!

ps - where is this heatsink review update ;)

I seen this retails at £299 and I would be tempted to buy this at £199. Only thing is I only occasionally use my Logitech MOMO Racing wheel, but have a dozen good racing games. It looks complicated to use compared to my current racing setup, so would this be a worthwhile upgrade?

Most definately a worthy upgrade from your MOMO. The MOMOs used to be up there as the best FFB wheels (not including specialist wheels), but the tech has moved on considerably, 900degree rotation, much more fluid feedback. Many more features including a Gated shifter, lots of extra buttons. The Key area of improvement for me are the pedals, they are 10 times better than the MOMO and very well built, much more realistic feel.

Interms of how complicated it is to use, its really easy to be honest. I can't see its any different to the MOMO just has a few more buttons and seperate unit for the Shifter. Setting up on the PC it uses the old logitech profiler you should be familiar with, so nothing daunting.

I say go for it. I'm an avid Sim racer, have had numerous wheels including the MOMO, G25, Fanatec GT3rs. The Logitech G-series wheels have been the best for me. For this price you really can't get anything better.

Thanks for your post 7Monk3y, good feedback on your first post :)

From what you said, it would seem a step up. The MOMO seems to have about only 360 degree rotation and in turning it, you feel+hear something slowing it down (probably the motor). Thats with it unplugged btw. Does the G27 solve this?

The software is really good for me on the MOMO, I normally just set the gear lever to a handbrake for getting around corners. With the G27 compared to my MOMO, adding on a clutch is too much close to real driving as I don't drive and have a dodgy ankle so that could be off-putting unless you can adjust the firmness of the pedals??

I'm not into sim racing games, just the usual fun Dirt 1 + 2, Grid, Fuel, Toca Race Driver 3, Flatout series, Midnight Club 2, and Burnout Paradise. If its a decent wheel, I could get more into racing than dipping into it every now and then.

I think you'll get a lot out of the G27 for games such as Dirt2, I dont know about the others I don't have them and their not my cuppa to be honest. The 900 degrees of rotation can easily be set in the logitech profiler so you don't always need to use it. I change the rotation quite a lot depending on cars/mods/games, sometimes I run 360 or 540 actually rarely need the full 900, but its there if you do.

You will feel some notchiness even with the G27, which has improved that aspect from the G25. The G25 has metal reinforced straight cut gears connected to motors to produce the FFB, they are bullet proof but loud. The G27 is super silent by using Helical gears. The other factor will be the motors, theres always a bit of notchiness from them, but as I said the G27 has minimised that overall. Compared to the MOMO its a big difference, I tried out the MOMO again not long ago and its night and day.

Don't worry about the pedals, you dont have to use the clutch just set up your games with brake and throttle and your good to go. They are a bit more firm than the MOMO but I don't think it should be too difficult for you, but I'm guessing completely. Theres no easy way to adjust the pedal stiffness. If I remember rightly (I use a different pedal set) the Clutch is less stiff than the brake and you could easily use that as the brake.

Heres a nice review/comparison of the G25-27

I admin a simracing website so if you'd like to get involved in some friendly racing and learn the ropes feel free to pm me.

I normally just set the gear lever to a handbrake for getting around corners.

Unfortunately the only retrograde step imo from the G25-G27 is the shifter no longer has the option to switch to sequential shifting, its a gated H shifter only, so not sure thats going to work as well for you as a handbrake, like your MOMO did.

Thanks again 7Monk3y for your feedback, its helped me decide to spend even more money on another OCUK purchase, last purchase was my amazing Dell monitor. I honestly hope this racing wheel is a worthwhile investment as this will be my last wheel.

One important point raised in that review - as my mate has a PS3 - it says it's not compatible with PC, 360 or PS3 but OCUK says it is:
SimHQ: Many consumers were hoping that Logitech would endow the G27 with cross compatibility for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. However, that wasn’t to be. While that one element doesn’t take away from Logitech’s other achievements with the G27, it does leave us wanting more in terms of product versatility...

Features and fixes Logitech should build Into the next G2x: Develop a force feedback racing wheel that is cross-compatible with the PC, PS3 and the Xbox 360. As more and more racing sim titles are released for the Xbox 360 and PS3, the demand for a single, quality racing wheel that can swap between PC and Xbox will continue to increase.

Its certainly a very good review and pictures do the G27 justice. Nice quality steeringwheel unlike mine. The wheel rotation on the MOMO with the turning sound, as mentioned, meant it was a no go for night time gaming. If you noticed a big difference from the MOMO to the G27, then it shows why I've been unhappy with this one in the unnatural stiff-motion in the wheel.

There's also the option to adjust the pedals for a more comfortable position but its a shame it can be a bit stiff. As for using the something for the handbrake, I could reassign the clutch as a handbrake for use arcade games like Flatout, etc. I then use only the paddles for the gear changes.

Btw, I'm not one for subtleness which is why I'm probably too impatient for sims but I did used to play GTR 2 off and on when it came out around 4 years ago. It was really frustrating learning that as you needed months of practice. Once I get this ordered (on Sunday midday), I will try it out on my current games and PM you if I can improve my driving ability :)

One important point raised in that review - as my mate has a PS3 - it says it's not compatible with PC, 360 or PS3 but OCUK says it is:

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming/wheels/devices/5184#PS3Games

Logitech's site lists several PS3 games the wheel works with, so I assume it should be fine for all of these.

Yeah the wheel is fine for use on both PS3 and PC, it's the same wheel, they don't do different ones. However, if anyone else is thinking about it, don't assume it'll work on XBox because it works on these other two - it won't, and any review saying so is correct on that point.

Glad it works with PS3 games

It's ordered and I'm really looking forward to getting back into racing games this Xmas - moreso with this great bit of kit. :) The delivery (next day) is noted as being tomorrow but doubt that with the current weather conditions.

I hope it doesn't for others, but it could end up costing nearly £300 by February. As OCUK say, order today as it goes up on Tuesday!

From the reviews I've read and videos watched (some that highlighted loud clicking on the steering wheel being turned); from what gathered overall the difference in noise from the MOMO steering wheel is miles better. Now I'm glad the MOMO is no longer needed as I felt it was holding me back. By how far is anyone's guess though ;)

Guys

At this rate all 200 units will run out prior to Xmas. We have more on order that should arrive tomorrow. Lets hope they do :)

Wow, thats very impressive! Is my order included in the stock you already have Ace?

Just trying to get an idea when it could be coming. I did also check the DPD website and the Newcastle area has had deliveries either severely disrupted or cancelled to the run up to Xmas. They had that info up once before but only meant a delivery was delayed by 3 days. Problem sounds more like a backlog as they are otherwise a great delivery company.

All G27s order will ship out the door today (unless you have specified a later delivery date) Lets hope DPD do not have backlogs in your area. The majority of area's are ok. Any area's with delays, DPD do expect to get the deliveries made for Christmas.
