OMG Thief 4!

So excited for this :D played them all as they came out, so will be doing the same with this without a doubt.
 
I just grabbed thief 3: Deadly shadows from Windows Live Marketplace, £9.99. Yeah i could have got it cheaper, but not as quickly while laying in bed I'm sure :p

been told to grab some texture pack, so thats my next point of call.
Its £7 on Steam :p

I dont think 30fps in such a game is needed, if its a spamfest like COD, a driving game or a beat 'em up then yeah 60fps is what I want. I can make do with a stable 30fps for Thief.

Honestly I cant see what fps has to do with next gen or not. Stable fps is far more a necessity than the amount IMHO.

Thats fine, anyone expecting top end PC performance from a launch next-gen game is slightly naive anyway! Just like the comment regards UE3, no doubt when they started developing Thief 4, UE4 wasnt anywhere near release. Great headlines, just not that sensational once you read the detail. Just have to hope they make sure the shadows are dark enough ;)

that indicates to me its either better physics or 60fps.

if PS4 is as powerful as people say why not both?

The guy in charge thinks that the players for the most part wont see a difference between 60fps and 30fps. Which to be honest, I'm in agreement with, I'm personally happy with a solid framerate. Regardless of 60 or 30. I just dont want dipping.

Basically he's just saying he's happy going with 30fps... That doesnt mean 60fps isnt possible, why go for a goal further away when the goal closer is enough to make the public happy?

Its got zero to do with what the PS4 can do, its the dev who just doesnt see a point in aiming for something thats surplus to requirement.

if 30fps is no way related to technological limitations then 1080p should be easier to achieve as a result?

Where are you getting 720p from? If you google 'Thief 4 720p PS4' you are the top hit and no other decent source mentions it. Have you made some massive assumption?

Not a problem, you forced me to google and I was kinda bemused :p. Ultimately for this type of game 60fps is a nice thing, not a necessity and considering this isnt from a top developer (Eidos Montreal have only made DX:HR and TRs MP) or a first party one, I dont expect it to really showcase the PS4s abilities. Do I believe all their reasoning, not really, I think its a cop out, I just want this to be good enough to warrant another game, just not the 10 year wait...

No doubt as its a nextgen launch multiplat there will be plenty of restrictions imposed on the game just because its a launch game.

Id be more annoyed about KZ being 30fps, than this...

EDIT: What I am looking for in this game is PC quality physics, it would make/break the immersion IMHO.

Its good, but I think it made a few compromises to move over to consoles, like being third person while the first two were first person and far better for it, or the hub world whereas the first two felt far 'bigger' and seperate levels felt like they were all in the same city. It just tinkered with stuff that really didnt need to be tinkered with...:

...not to mention the respawning enemies when backtracking in the city :/ Too many compromises due to xbox hardware limitations. Thief 2 is still the most hardcore stealth game ever.
