OMG vinyl me up some more

In all seriousness if you were going to design something and print, it would take longer than 10 minutes to set the machine up.

Cost wise you will be paying a fair bit as no one will want to run their digital printer for and A4 size sheet - unless you were looking to do multiples.

I'd think you'd be looking at around £50 for it. Would be interesting to see if anyone goes to their local signmakers and enquires about it what they say.

Working for a sign company always has it's advantages in that respect, easy access to vinyl and non printed vinyl, perspex etc....

i did sign making at college years ago was fun

what did you use to print them designs out a Gerber Edge?

i might get back into sign making again 1 day :)
the only thing i hated about sign making was doing sand blasting, god i hated that job lol

.

I don't know about a laptop but I know a company that will do one for an xbox 360 faceplate for $9.99 (I did mean $) using a custom design of your choice :)

@ OP looks very good, I'll have to ask at a sign makers how much it would cost to get one done

That company i presume specialises in that kind of thing, in which case it's very feasable as they will have plenty of orders coming in - doing one offs in digital print is not an issue (like it is with screen printing). The issue is the time invloved in doing a small job like that as a one off (ie the only one being produced) for the return. The consumables cost for the printed product is relitively cheap, however the time is not and time is money, unless your doing it for yourself or you have no other work to do

thanks for the reply bigcheeseburger :)

ive used a Garber Edge many times nice machine to work with as well

as for the price on the design work, that would go by how big some 1 wants the art work deign to be. amount of colour thats to be used and the time it takes for a sign maker to do that job.

as long as some 1 doesnt want a big transfer logo design the price shouldnt be a lot ;)

oh yea do you ever go to the NEC sign making show?. its a great day
out to there dam i miss going to that place seeing new hardware :p
i wonder if thats still going. hm i will have to look into it

If i was at work i would price them around a tenner for a laptop cover

Seriously? email me the details of the company you work for and i'll send all our printing to you if you do it that cheap - We run a gerber as well as a wide format mimaki JV3 and at those prices it would be cheaper for us to sell the gerber and get your company to do all the work!

think the vinyl has got you beat sorry mate :(

Thats not really the point tbh tom, its more about simply printing out peoples designs / drawings / artwork / photography and sticking it on - specialy for a profit.

*google images* - ive looked there tons of times for ideas and designs, but i think re - creating is miles appart from re-producing
i got the picture of the woman im doign off google images. but it looks nothign liek the original befroe you start lol
THAT is what narks me

Vinyl is great as a temporary mesure on something like a laptop, but unless that latop top stays in one place 24/7 then in a month it's going to look rubbish, the corners and edges will be curled up, the print will be fading off due to wear.

For longterm stuff it has to be paint.

Looks good... I just used a stencil and spraypaint to do my laptop - Banksy style! :D It's not really as good yours, as it's only one colour, but it covers up the scratches.
