Hi

I have had problems installing windows XP on my HDD, as when it reaches 99% it says that some files cannot be installed and there is an internal error.

I installed my old pc bits to enable me to boot off my old hdd where i had a previous windows install on partition C (containing my docs that i wanted to backup). Partition D also contained my music and most importantly all my uni work for *** last 3 years, that i wanted to backup too. Unfortunately i formatted the D partition using the disc storage manager in the administrative system options.

All i did was click format, and bosh it was gone. Im using some recovery tool, but what is that chance that it will be able to recover *** uni documents ?

**** **** **** :(

erm well its recovering a lot of files, but does anyone know of a program that will look for *** deleted folders containing all the files rather than jsut listing all the recovered files by filetype ?

thanks

All you needed one was of these, and you wouldn't be pooing yourself..

Prepare yourself you might not able to recover the data. You could send it away to data recover companies, it'll cost a bit though. And learn from this mistake

1) Always have important/non recoverable data/coursework backed onto another machine or onto media

2) Be in a recovery situation that your hard drive can stop working at any time, and you still have data elseware, albeit not quite up to date (ie at worst lost 1 weeks of work)

Cheers lads, il give that program a go.

Squiffy, i have plenty of those and backed up all videos etc jsut before i came to uni. I also installed my old pc bits today so i could remove the password on my old windows so i could access my documents and backup everything on that drive later on today. Just a silly error of mixing up drive letters on the day i had devoted to backing up

Im scared that ive lost my uni work, bu its about 1/6 of the way through and has recovered a few hundred word files already. A few of which are the latest documents.

I think im lucky that ive done it today so windows will not have been able to overright those files on the formatted part of the HDD.

Actually i might have backed up my uni folder onto my brothers pc at home.
