OMG

There is a lot I love about this game but there are a lot of niggles that should have been resolved during testing.

It does seem like there are more and more glitches that are presenting themselves regularly. Hopefully we will see a patch soon that will resolve most of these.

IMO this is a tech demo. Epic & ID make more money from licencing the game engine than they do from making and selling an IP. Its just too short and unpolished (from a gaming rather than graphics perspective).

BTW Teamwork, movement, tactics are all > AIM. in this game.

GoW is excellent. The gameplay is a lot better than some people make out.

I was at first sceptical, and only completed it on Co-op with my mate via live on casual. I thought it would get old quickly and played a bit of multiplayer then didn't touch it for a few weeks.

I'm now playing it again on my own on casual, and it's very very good. It is more than just good graphics, if you keep having a go you get addicted to the gameplay of popping up, killing, hiding etc.

Multiplayer was an afterthought for Epic, they have even said this at some point, so it's not meant to be amazing, and it almost is. I think considering they just lumped it on towards the end of development its very good.

I also agree its a flashy tech demo. I think the next one could and should be the greatest game ever made but i'd only give this one 85% tops. Next gen and you can't even customise the controls to stop that stupid A button run and cover. Yet again what is wrong with these games and the singual save point. I should be able to have one save for co-op with a mate and one for SP.
All true, especially the bit about the next one. I definitely felt that this was an introduction to the GoW universe and story. Hopefully the next one has some real fictional meat, which could indeed make it one of the best games ever. + if they fix some of the controls..

Now who agrees with this?

Failed to see how the Single player game was worse than GRAW COD3 or many other shooters.
Yes the story and some of the characters is as cheesy as a B grade scifi movie but to say the game is only a tech demo, come on.
It seems the more hardcore online players prefer other games yet the more casual onliners playing one in FL arnt so critical.
The game could improve further with DL content, personally i think the game needed a raging flame thrower as a weapon (particulary as the game borrows so heavily from the Aliens franchise)

From a technical ability considering the console and this being EPIC's first game on the system indeed the sound effects/music and graphical design its by far the best ive witnessed for a polished title. Although not eveyone likes its dark and gritty nature.

Though to be fair it was always sold as a Horror/Sci-fi/Action title.

Oh I love the graphics. Yes your right it will improve with DL content, the multiplayer needs it. With some extra ways of playing multiplayer it will be great fun. Also needs more than 4 per side.

The SP has no substance to it at all. They did so well with the cover system that its nigh on impossible to get killed in SP while behind it. You can line your shot up before you even poke out pour on the firepower and duck well before your gonna get killed. Then re pop out at the exact same spot.

For a game that wasn't designed with multi player in mind ironically that works better in MP where your target can recover too. Also the human player can be smarter about it and do the same while someone flanks. The AI doesn't recover so picking them off is easy. Especially as there are rarely more than 4 enemies. You kill one then that triggers another to come out of the emergence hole.

The cover made the SP so easy, the only times I die is in the open or when I go on a rambo. I enjoyed the game but I think so much of the enjoyment is as you say how heavily they leaned on Aliens in particular. The marines taking on the hordes.

As I say I think the next one could be the greatest, with more enemies on screen at once and more variety of alien. Wretches and locust just doesnt cut it.

Epic have showcased what they can do, I wish they were doing the upcoming aliens games.

GOW has lots of bugs that needed ironing out, it also worries me a little that the textures sometimes take a second to load. It worries me why the 360 couldnt' handle that. Maybe the loading times shouldve been longer?

The game is way to short, needed atleast two more acts to get it past the 5-6 hour mark. Its as though they run out of ideas hence why you get 3 beserkers.

I certainly think its a good first effort but most people don't seem to be blinded by the graphics and not look at whats actually on offer. Yet in the Wii threads the same people are telling you it's not about graphics "its all about the gameplay"

Perhaps its not a flamethrower gears needs as a weapon, its a fancy controller and bowling ball ;)

Did you play it on casual?
I loved every second of it (except when I kept dying). *IF* it was just a tech demo... Boy, WHAT a tech demo!

Q3A was just a tech demo. if you actually stop to look around at the pretty environments you can see just how much work went into it. I thought the sound and music was spot on too.

I can't think of a decent storyline/plot/whatever since Deus Ex. I'm not gonna slate GoW for not having one. Maybe i'm just a fanboi.

I can't even get past one of the first bits of the first act on insane.

Nope I did it on hardcore straight out the box. Then on insane in co-op which is harder than alone in most places. Then insane on my own. Then insane again in co-op for a friend. I've also done casual to help someone in co-op find all the tags which was a joke, I didnt even bother using cover.

Sorry, but don't believe you. Anyone here who's played online with me knows I'm pretty good at the game - yet just last night I was talking to my brother about the Casual difficulty on the game. We both admitted that we still occassionally get downed by the enemies even on such an easy difficulty. Was helping my cousin play it, and it took me a couple of attempts to clear the area when you first meet the Theron guards!

Yes, using cover means you can just re-gen your health all the time and not have too much of a struggle. But the game will be VERY long if you do it that way.

Are you joking?

the Casual setting on this game is laughable, it literally is a walk in the park :D even Hardcore is pretty easy, infact bar a few sections so is Insane - certainly not a touch on veteran/realistic settings for CoD/R6.

I remember helping VIRII with RAAM and he was down within about 45seconds

/edit

Being good online doesnt mean your good offline :p

Point being? RAAM is one boss (all of which are admittedly easy in GoW) and certainly does not reflect the difficulty of the entire game. The amount of times you get flanked by random grubs with shotguns and gibbed, a stray rocket from a Boomer hits you or you get tagged by a Torque arrow unexpectantly is quite surprising.

I didn't say it's not possible to go through the game on Casual without dying, 'cause it is. But to say it's laughably easy is just ignorant - you'd have to use cover to the extreme, constantly low or out of ammo and generally taking a much longer time to complete the game than normal.

Yes, but atleast it gives me a valid reference point ;)

I agree its quite easy on casual mode. I'm rubbish when playing this type of game with a controller, infact this is the first one iv played on a console. I did however manage to get through it without any problem, I had afew attempts on the last boss though that was about it. I tried online, once, for abit... got leathered :o

i was just using the final boss as an example, i still did not die once during Casual and it didnt take that long at all; it was difficult in any sense of the word but then FPS/Shoot-em-ups are my strength - some games people can do easy as pie and i struggle with (such as RTS - im about average, never great) so guess its down to individual skill.

A quick roll away and sprayage to the face in GoW is all you need

Well on casual I found it a piece of ****. With the sniper rifle you dont even need a head shot to kill. The bits with the theron guards once you clear the first wave at the cut scene the rest are easily melee'd on casual.

Kalanium needed his last co-op achievement and we did the first act in no more than 25 minutes tops. We didnt seek cover we were larking about.

I know wyrdo, when he needed to find his last cog tags was playing through on casual and he walked through it too. Wretches are the only thing that give me problems with downs and thats the exploding ones cos I can't be arsed to carry the shotgun, I like lancer sniper combo.

I'm not one of the better multi player GOW users from this forum but thats irrelevant. If the locusts sniped liked Gord, shot gunned like Krono and tagged like Alrik I wouldn't get off the first section. In any difficulty I've never yet been hit by one of those locust snipers. They are worse than me with a sniper rifle. I've never had one get a grenade anywhere near me.

Casual especially is a walkthough. 3 1/2 to 4 hours maybe faster on co-op.

Well it can't be as crap as you seem to want to make it out to be, if you felt the urge to play through it in its entirety FOUR times....
