On-board Graphics Issue

So I used to have a 560ti which served me well until it died recently. I've been running with the Intel HD Graphics ever since.

Today, I switch the PC on and get 'no input detected' type of error message on my monitor.

I have an HDMI lead going from the monitor to the port for the on-board card, and have tried a separate monitor with a VGA cable, which also produced no display.

My understanding was that you should still get the BIOS screen if the on-board graphics card drivers/software wasn't working, but I get nothing. I've tried taking out the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS just incase, but it made no difference.

Obviously I planned to purchase a new dedicated card shortly to replace the 560ti, but if I do that now, I presume I won't be able to set it up since I don't get any display right now :(

So at this point, should I now upgrade my CPU and Motherboard as well?

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4.3Ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68AP-D3

Thanks for any advice offered, I'm more of a software person than hardware, so not 100% sure on this stuff :D

if your just gaming at 1080p then your current setup should still be fine.

im currently still using a I7 950 with a 390.

if you have tried another monitor with different cable and still get no picture than the monitor will be fine.

do you know anyone with a PCIE gpu you could try?
