On-board LAN Not Working

For some reason the onboard LAN is no longer listed in my device manager. I've tried reinstalling the realtek drivers but it fails to install saying it isn't detected and says "The RealTek Network Adapter/Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode enabled Please Plug the Cable". The Ethernet cable is plugged in I don't why it says that; the port itself is un-lit. Ive tried a system restore, reformatting, clearing CMOS and its still missing in my device manager. Researching this problem on google showed that others have had this problem before but with no actual solution(?).

Any pointers?

If I need to buy a new adapter/card, what should I purchase?

Gigabyte GA P55 USB3 Socket 1165
W7 64 bit Home Premium
Intel i5 766 @ 4.01 GHz
4GB 1600 MHz Corsair RAM
Nvidia GTX 470 1280MB GFX
OCZ 650WPSU.

is the lan turned on in bios? and did you install the realtek drivers as admin? right click and install as admin

look in bios,if you see a mac address then the port is working and its a driver issue

It's enabled in the BIOS when I access it thru' DEL at the initial load up screen. So this is puzzling me. I'll try the drivers again when I get home. I don't think there was a MAC address the last time I checked. This is related to another issue I had (posted in gen. discussion) regarding W7 OS not loading after resetting CMOS after USBs became disabled.

I've never done that before - total noob when it comes to something like this and I'd be unsure of what to do :/. Would a 3rd party LAN card not sort things?

yes a lan card would but it should work with onboard,if you use @BIOS you can save current bios(oc settings included) to your desktop, then update with newest beta bios

you need to use @BIOS to flash the newer bios's larger than 2mb,once done you can flash future bios updates with qflash, its just a one off update with @BIOS

Howmany pci-e slots you have? Either would work pci-e or pci, aslong as you use latest @BIOS off gigabytes website you'll be fine,or use Usb stick and update to the latest 1mb BIOS file using qflash

Try booting from a ubuntu cd

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download

Download the 32bit iso, and burn it with IMGBurn, see if the internet works in that.

I've seen trashed Windows installs before that look ok on the surface but don't seem to work at all with ethernet.

Also, I've seen a few boards where the ethernet has totally died and I've had to install an extra card
