On-Call rates

How many calls do you get though? Cant be that much surely as it would drive you insane always having to be alert on your own with no roster and a break

1-2 a week
this usually means getting up in the middle of the night (usually Australia or west coast US calling)
I don't have to go anywhere, I can work remotely (IT), but the length of the work can vary from 15 mins to several hours depending on what's broken.
yes it does drive me insane, I would not recommend it :S

approx. £700p.w. on call then OT on top but not at full rates, 1.25x in week, 1.35x weekend

obv different rates for bank hols

I assume this kind of shift is for the whole week on some kind of rota? Unless you're the only one doing the on-call.

Used to get £350 per week (based on one week in four) for being on call. Expectation was we worked 7 hours per day (either during the day or on overnight call out) anything above that could be charged at overtime rates, 1.5x, 2.0x depending week or weekend.

EDIT: Just to add, no on call now and don't miss getting disturbed in the evenings/overnight.

£275 per week. Expected to answer/deal with stuff any time of day when core working hours aren't in effect.

The rate isn't amazing but I do often go without being called up, so there's that.

O/T for anytime I am called up also.

yep, my wife looks after some very vulnerable people and earns very little :(
Same here, the 'moral' rewards are high but still, a little more financial 'appreciation' would be nice. I would hazard a guess you and your wife know where I'm coming from.

Mine is crap (IT Sector)
Retainer is £10 a night, £15 for 24 hours on a weekend, full week on every 6 (supposedly)
If I get a call out it's min 2 hours pay @ x1.5 hourly rate.
Not worth it for putting my life and often by proxy my families life on hold for that week.
I complain about it to my management whenever I can.

£350 per week for being on call/standby on a 1 in 4 rota and then overtime when called out at a flat rate of 1.5x.

11hrs sleep time allowed if I get back in early hours of morning.

My last week on call was quite busy so did 34hrs at 1.5 = 51hrs total :)

I get £300 a week flat rate for 5pm -8am mon-thurs and 5pm fri-8am monday. on a rota of 1 in 3.

Average week get about 10 calls majority of which are fixed within 15 mins.

£500 per week flat rate with no per hour payments if/when we get called. This was negotiated by us vs the choice of a smaller weekly payment plus an amount per call/hour.

Do 7 days at a time 8pm to 8am and probably get called about once in every two weeks.

It used to be considerably less, we had to push management to pay better for it as initially it was on an "always been this way" type agreement where the pay was terrible and nothing was formally agreed.

Was about 5 years ago, but IIRC it was £200 for a week (1 week in 4) plus double time for any callout with a minimum of 2 hours (so 4 hours pay).

One callout I remember in particular was a 3 hour drive to a customer site to spend 15 minutes swapping over a monitor and a 3 hour drive back home... great fun :p

Last time I was oncall I received £2.50/hr for standby and then you'd get overtime at 1.5x if you were called (2x on Sundays). I believe the company's rate has raised to £3 since I stopped doing it (which was only given as part of a sweetener to encourage people to sign a new contract (which nobody asked me to do which was good as its terms aren't as good as the old one))

At £2.50/hr you ended up with ~£250/week before tax with no call outs. Theoretically it was one week in four but that did vary from team to team depending on the number of callouts and the number of people on call in that team (some teams who had younger lower paid members tended to abuse things if they didn't mind not being called out by not fixing issues properly so they could fix them on overtime). Personally I did four weeks in four for ~3 years but fortunately didn't get called very often so the extra money was nice but it was draining.

Ah, on call in France.

+10% salary for being on a rota.
Double time on a weekday, and time in lieu (minimum 1 day).
Triple time on a weekend, and time in lieu (minimum 1 day).
Work a public holiday? Triple time, and double time in lieu.
For every hour worked over 7 hours, 1.5x and time in lieu.
For every hour worked over 11 hours, double time, and time in lieu (though technically not legal).

Needless to say, my company stopped asking me to do on call ;).
