Hey guys,

Is there anyway i can get On-demand TV without going with a subscription based box such as VM or Sky?

Does that Apple TV offer this?

Not sure exactly what Apple TV does,Is it just for renting movies in HD etc?

At the moment my TV just has Freeview + a couple of Freeview HD channels,Would be nice to have on demand so i can watch things when i got time..

Nev. :)

A lot of blu ray players pack On demand entertainment - iplayer plus loads of other stuff on my LG one.

If you want a no-cost service then you're going to have to redefine your idea of "on demand".

BBC iPlayer and ITV player are really just a catchup service rather than true On Demand. They're limited to just a few days worth of content and not all the programmes make it on to the players. 4oD goes back further, but the quality is a bit limited as a result. Of course none of these services offer anything beyond their own stations output.

Apple's latest version of Apple TV has proved a bit of a damp squib with UK consumers. There's not enough in the way of accessible UK content unless you pay for show downloads. For example, Pan Am is available to view free on BBC iPlayer, but the Apple repackage is £2.49 per episode. Okay, it's HD and there's the complete back catalogue to choose from...but £2.49? ...and you'll want to (or have to) save it to your PC because the new Apple TV doesn't have a hard drive. Reflashing one with XMBC is a more tempting prospect, but as yet there's no support in XMBC for iPlayer.

Overall I'd agree with those who have suggested a games console as the answer. Some form of storage is essential for buffering. Either a PS3 or an XBox 360
