Onboard graphics combined with PCI-E?

This is more of dream rather than a reality i feel.

Having done some research on the internet, no-one really has a definitive answer and it varies from spec to spec.

I am currently running:

Gigabyte GA-H55-UD3H
Intel core i5 760 @ 3.3ghz
ATI 4890
8GB 1333mhz RAM

and would like to know whether it would be possible to activate the onboard graphics to drive a 3rd monitor?

I have two machines setup alongside each other giving 3 monitors and Synergy controlling the keyboard and mouse across them, but without the purchase of Maxivista, the 3rd monitor is not really used much. Is it possible on this MB to activate the onboard graphics as well as use a PCI-E card?

Any help greatly appreciated.

The H55 chipset doesnt have an onboard GPU as such, rather it passes through the signal from Intel i3 and i5 6** series CPU's that have the graphics core on the same die as the CPU core.

Yeah the i5 760 doesn't have an integrated GPU, so unless you replace the CPU it's impossible and I'm not sure if you could do what you want even if you did have a CPU with integrated GPU.

So basically, it can run the monitors when its ONLY the onboard graphics, but because it is the lower end H55, it cannot run both the onboard and pci-e graphics whereas say some of the p55's would be able to do both?

you cant run any onboard graphics, you have a i5 7** series cpu.

you can only use yout ATI card at the moment.

a P55 chipset cant pass the graphics from a i3 or i5 6** series cpu like a H55 does.

No - there are no onboard graphics on any H55, H57 or P55 boards. However, as stulid says, the i3 (500 series) and i5 (600 series) CPUs have a graphics chip on the CPU die. When used with a H55 or H57 board - this can be used as the graphics output. However, as you have an i5 700 series - you don't have a graphics core, instead you have a full quad core. Hence it doesn't matter what board you use, with that CPU you will not have "integrated" graphics.

If you want to run a third monitor, I suggest you pick up a very cheap PCIe graphics card.
