Onboard RAID

If I create a RAID (striped) using the onboard RAID of my mobo (soon to be Asus Maximus Formula SE) and the Mobo failed or I replaced it for a different Mobo - would the RAID still work?

I assume that it wouldn't, that being the case if I used Vista to create the stripe I assume that I could transfer the RAID.

What are the pros and cons of each method?

okay - not worried about the booting as i will boot from my raptor, I also have Vista Ultimate. But as far as performance goes, I assume that i will take a performance hit by using vistas striping instead of a dedicated RAID controller?
