Hi,

I received an letter from one.com about a domain & space I have with them. Asking for a renewal fee of £57 and £10 reminder!

What's worse is that I closed my account over a month a go!

Contacted them about it and said that I refuse to pay for something I am not using. Just received an email back stating its the 3rd letter/email and that all I can do is lower it to the smallest package.

I am not happy about it. Any advice for fighting my corner?
 
Dig your heels in and don't pay a penny. Stuff 'em. If they won't listen, then no point bothering to tell them either.
 
Ok, time for an update.

I emailed their CS a week before my contracted time of payment was due, no response.

Tried again the day before, no response.

Got a response some time later after trying several more times.

Several emails back and forth with them stating that I could pay for the lower package but I would still have to pay.

A week later I contact them and agree to take the lower package only to be told it has been passed on to http://www.intrum.co.uk/ so they can chase it.

Can anyone suggest what the best course of action is here? Should I have to pay it or can I just tell them where to go?

Also, anyone know how I can find out more info on the company itself? things such as how long it has been running and how big it is?

To be honest it's a difficult one.

If you asked to close the account and the account has been left open (whether your fault or not), then I'm afraid there's nothing you can do about it as it's just going to escalate into an argument of tit for tat. Ultimately they'll show you entered a legal agreement until the account is closed and seeing as it's open, well, you get the picture.

If you've received electronic or written confirmation confirming the account is closed then of course you're within your rights to pay nothing and inform them of this.

But bottom line, and apologies if this sounds a little curt, but your case just highlights that even in todays modern world, you simply can not and should not rely on emails as a way of official communication.

Way I see it, either pay the lower package and walk away out of pocket, or risk them having some clause in their original agreement about cancellation period, adding on charges and taking it further.
