One day insurance - but with a catch

Yeah but if you don't stack it, it's all good

But that isn't how things work is it?
Why not line up 52 insurance companies.
Take out a policy with the first one and cancel it a week later.
Do this for the year and have free insurance?

"Don't stack it, it's all good".
So as long as I don't crash my car, driving around with no insurance is fully acceptable??

You're not driving about with no insurance though, are you?

You take out a policy with ABC Insurance Plc.

You drive the car.

Nothing happens.

You cancel the policy, within your rights, and get premium back, minus a few days cover and an admin fee.

Or...

You take out a policy with ABC Insurance Plc.

You drive the car.

You crash it.

You claim from ABC Insurance Plc. as you hold a valid policy and, worst case scenario you're several grand out of pocket after writing off a ~45k Ferrari.

Does dayinsure just point blank not insure a car over 40k in value? I know it asks you but I just assumed it would be far more expensive but still possible.

WERD? for a year?

They gots me paying 2200 on a 998cc Nissan Micra. Where's the justice.

Some quotes were in excess of 3000, most around 2500.

Am I really that likely to crash? In a Micra.....

EDIT: Just had a thought... My car itself is only worth 2 - 2.5k. How on earth do they calculate such high premiums.

The Micra is far more of a performance car than a F355 as you have pointed out on numerous occasions.

He has to buy the car before they will insure him. Which, a) the owner isnt going to go for, and b) he doesnt have 40K to actually buy it.

Or were you suggesting that you change the existing policy owners cover for 1 month? Again the owner isnt going to do this as the wording in the first post was "if you can get insurance".

To be honest he offered me the keys without insurance. It's only my head screaming "DONT DO IT YOU FOOL" that stopped me biting his hand off..

I might email Dayinsure later and see if they do 'exceptions'

Don't you have insurance on another car at the moment? If you can speak to someone with more than half a brain they should be able to cover you for a few days.. although in my experience the costs vary wildly from company to company.

Yes, but I'm not covered for DOC. For some reason that was removed with this policy, I think Merlin covered the reasons why some people won't offer it any more. :(

Speaking of which... where's Merlin when you need him! :D

Is it actually worth that? You could check out the trade value and say thats the value of the car?
you do realise if he insures it at trade value, and he bends it, he will only receive trade value back from the settlement?
this could result in having to come up with a good few thousand pounds out of his own pocket to reimburse the owner.

see if you can swap your current policy to the fezza for a few days (however many you need it) this should be the cheapest way round it, then swap it back, you will get hit for an admin charge of about 10 pound per day and the costs of insuring.

FYI I paid £725.00 full comp last year for my first years insurance, I was 28 never been insured on a car before.

I listed the cars value at 32,000

it also included european cover although this was third party only I paid 17 pound to change to full comp, it shouldnt be too hard to get it sorted.

good luck :) and we need pics when youve fixed the insurance

I didn't mean DOC, I can extend my policy to include other cars (usually for no extra cost due to the car I drive and DL thinking i'm their long lost son) as long as it's not my perm. car.

I'm sure they'll charge you, but it's certainly worth asking.

I'm with admiral, i pay ~£600 a year for a 205 gti 1.9. I needed to use my dad's focus rs for the weekend so i gave admiral a call and the sorted 2 day cover for £11.48. Have you tried this?

Andy,

You'll have to get your name added to his insurance for a day or whatever.

His insurers should do it - but obviously only if he can be arsed to call them to ask.

Just ask him nicely. :)

Incidentally - Ade drove the 430 on his DOC extension.

That's Ade for you though ;)

Cheers guys :)

By the way..

Just a taster as to how she sounds. Apologies for the recording since it was just the voice recorder on my mobile phone. Gives you an idea though :) if I get the keys I intend to take it to Queensway tunnel in Bham and give it a portion. ;)

(In first obviously officer so I don't break the 40mph limit)

My insurers just told me they wouldn't extend my cover to cover me on my mum's car for a day, and that's a bloody Passat :o
