One for aircraft / Lancaster fans

Ahh a beauty. Imagine 500 of those dropping incendiaries on your home and family.

I've seen the bob memorial flight many, many times and my London house often got over flown when they do anything in the city. To hear those engines was an automatic call to run into the garden.

Brilliant day by the look of it, I'm very envious.
Complete coincidence seeing this today as I'm off to the BBMF later today.

I'm off to Duxford with a group of mates from another forum in 2 weeks for a full behind the scenes look and I can't wait. I was at Cosford yesterday and remember clambering all over their Lincoln 40 years back when I was a kid. Looks like great day out OP!

I regularly see the Lancaster/Spitfire and a host of other WW2 planes out for test flights, happy days :).

My granddad flew one of the Lancy's .

What a machine! Absolutely loved this aircraft when growing up, pretty much summarised British resilience and ingenuity.

That is awesome, Looks like your and your old fella had a great time.. Classic bikes was a massive bonus as well. Old machines are the best machines.

Spent all day at the Yorkshire Air museum myself yesterday.I've got friends over from Canada and his uncle flew the Halifax on missions during the war he was in the famous Friday the 13th one.. He'd brought over copies of his paperwork, photos and pass's to give to the museum where they have a rebuilt Halifax painted up as the Friday 13th one but only for Hanger showing. He did manage to get a short notice tour of the insides along with his mate and it made his day big time..

Beyond awesome.

Never forget those brave boys, mainly in their very early 20's...the casualty rate was around 50% i think, but the number is skewed by the fact the inexperienced crews took most of the casualties....

Yes, my grandad was among the lucky 50% who made it through, he was the guy who targeted the bombs and gave the shout to drop them.
He never talked about the war as he lost so many friends- only got the details from my gran after he died three years ago.
