One for the watch enthusiasts..

I will be honest, when I asked about in-house movements I did not realise that there were relatively few available.
It does not bother me as such but I was assuming initially that 'bought in' movements meant a lower quality watch.
Which kind of leads to the question, if most manufacturers use the same ETA based movements what singles each watch out that makes such a difference in price?

Whilst I like watches I have little knowledge of the business and movements etc from that point of view.

Sinn look a good bet too from what I have seen but as with Fortis, Epos, Ollech & Wajs etc where can you buy them from? I have found a couple of online retailers but would much prefer to see them prior to purchase.

JLC again I thnk may be over budget.

Generalisation ahoy: Tag watches are for people with more money than sense - people who buy for the label without appreciating the detail that goes into watchmaking. Either way I would not touch one with a barge pole.

Only if you pay retail for one, I bought mine in the states, you can also haggle a bit in the US stores, now would be an even better time to buy one from the states with the exchange rate at the moment.

There's also some good websites where you can get them quite a bit cheaper.

yep, most websites are about 20-25% off, I would imagine with current exchange rates US prices would be at least 40% off though import duty may be an issue

hmmm..I am in Florida for a week on business next month. Would it be worth me seeking out a watch shop for an uber bargain? I am staying in Melbourne and will probably be going to the Florida Mall for a days shopping one day.

More to the point though....would a daytona be available overthere or is it a worldwide waiting list?

I do like those JLC master compressor ones too.

Go to Sol Time in the Florida mall, if the same guy is still working there you can haggle with him. Managed to get a Breitling down from $3500 to $3000, didn't buy it in the end though.

You can also say shop x is selling it for less and they match it no questions asked lol.

the watch companies try to keep prices similar worldwide but with the exchange rates as they are I would imagine there to be good deals in the US

the JLC MCs are superb ( I have the extreme world chronograph )

Can you suggest some specific places (UK preferred) - either shops or websites - that do prices better than normal retail?
I found one or two -watchfinder seems a big site - but I am wary as not sure if they or other sites are 'official' retailers and all the major brands warn about not buying from non authorised outlets.

Thanks
Andrew

Another good place to go is Jared Jewellers. They are just across the road from the Festival Bay Mall on international Drive. When I was there in August, they had Omegas and Tags below RRP. Tags worked out about 20% less, and Omegas slightly less of a discount. I think they also do Brietling, but not sure.

Of course, if you wanted a cheap TAG then Orlando Premium outlets has a TAG outlet store. Well worth a look as stock changes all the time, but mostly older models not the latest ones.

How about an Omega Seamaster Aquaterra? Retail £1575 but I managed to get an offer of 10% discount in the middle of B'ham.
Simple appearance, co axial movement, nice feel and you can see the internals from the back as the cover is made of glass.

Yes, I like this, and also the Railmaster version, but that seems to be difficult to find in the UK so far!
Slightly more within budget I also quite like the the look of the Oris Artelier Chronometer, Date but again seems difficult to find in the UK.
I see a pattern emerging. :) but I like the slightly understated and almost 'old fashioned' look of these watches rather than the bright metal 'divers' watches.

Anyone know if these watches are actually available here?
