I like it, and the flare really works, but my critique would be that the light looks like it was placed too far past the subject, it looks almost behind them, which is not lighting the eyes, which is important in this type of shot as our eyes are drawn to her eyes. Also you have shut out the ambient, I would go with even a small light modifier just to soften than transition from light to shadow a little, this is especially because you shut out allot of ambient, so you effectively don't have any 'fill' to lighten the shadows which makes them look harsher.

The background is a little too in focus imo from where you had to stop down. I'm not sure if this was the best situation to sacrifice ambient light and short DOF as it's not like you'v captured a dramatic sky, so I think compositionally it could be a little better.

I can see what you are trying to do here and the deliberate flare works well. But it does seem that you need some more fill light. A reflector would have helped loads here.

Overall a nice idea....

Nice shot, but it looks like you have done some split toning and not painted all of the model back in, or alternatively you have painted too much of the sky in, as there looks to be a patch of hair around the top of her head that has 'normal' hair colour, also some slight 'halo' around the arms (at least on my monitor).
Fix that though and it'l be a lovely shot...

Yup, spotted the same. Tighter mask on the arms, more feathering on the hair.

Phate: It's so unflattering man. I know Sarah is well endowed in the frontal region, but it doesn't mean it has to be the pure focus of the photo :p You've shot up at her, with her looking down, and it's bunching her chin and neck up. I think the shot would have been improved just by shooting her level, and allowing her to bring her chin up to extend her neck.

Yup spot on, also would have been worse if the chin wasn't in shadow...

@ Phate

I know this has been some heavy critique, but don't feel down over it though, if your creative and fairly new to lighting, you have to make these kind of mistakes to find out what works/doesn't work.

Next shoot you'l be much less likely to make similar mistakes... :)

Hi mate,

Na I don't feel down over it at all :)

If I'm honest it was a test shot to be honest and I quite liked how it initially looked :p

I wouldn't say I'm new to creative lighting. Proper stuff coming tonight I agree though, it is unflattering...now im looking at it after not driving 250 miles :)

might as well tag it on in here as it's again a quick export of one that i liked the look of. first time using a wide angle for modelling shots, and I know it's a difficult one to approach! Also my first time out with the camera with people except for weddings for about 18 months lol.

EDIT moved to here:

Loving the colour in the sky and the contrast with the landscape and the angles.

I think it could have been a lot classier using the old saying less is more when it comes to the you know what's. Would be much sexier too I think if it's for a portfolio.

who's that a comment towards out of interest? I'm going to guess me given the colours comment. Yea there is a fair amount of clevage on shot, but (un?)fortunately unless specifically trying to avoid that with Sarah, there is always going to be (size 6/8 with 32F)

To me that looks chopped and not natural. I supposed you used fill in light?

There are 2 fill lights, one into a shoot through umbrella and one that was just onboard flash diffuser (only brought one brolly with us but decided we wanted another light, hense harsh shadow from hair on the 2nd of that type of shot)
