Thinking of upgrading my storage. What's the best way to go

Option 1
1x250gb SSD windows10 only
1x1Tb SSD everything else.

Option 2
1x 2tb SSD everything

Option 1. You'll get a game (Call of Duty) or two (most others) on the Windows SSD as well but having a separate drive is best IMO so if you do need to format and reinstall windows it's much easier

Definitely 2TB.
When has there ever been problem in getting space used up?

250GB is also such small size that drives of most series in that size are actually slower, because of less NAND chips and read/write parallelism.

That's why you make own partition for OS, instead of treating drive like one big black trash bag.

personally i like 3 drives at a minimum ideally 4

1 nvme boot drive, 1 nvme/ssd game drive 1 or 2 mechanicals for media and general storage

current gaming rig

1tb sabrent rocket nvme boot 2tb samsung 860 game drive and a pair of 6tb mechanicals for media

i like to do a full clean install when i reinstall windows and it helps get rid of games i never play.

i do have 400MB virgin media connection so downloading games isn't a real issue. I will be able to download any game I want to play pretty much within a few minutes and the rest may take half an hour or so.

I'm currently running 1TB nvme m2 ssd in my current gaming rig and that is it . nothing else and i have 542GB free. I just delete crap i won't play currently.

I have GTA V, Apex, Valorant, CSGO, Borderlands 3, World War Z, L4D2 and maybe 4-5 other games installed on it at the moment.

One thing that might be a consideration, I recently ditched the last of my spin drives and have all SSD now, despite my case having rubber grommets for 3.5inch HDDs, there was a surprising amount of humming from them.
I can no longer tell if my PC is turned on or not, it's so quiet at idle as the GPU and PSU power their fans down at low load, so there's only one CPU and one case fan running, both of which spin at low revs and not really audible at idle.

Definitely 2TB.

leaning towards getting a big m.2 drive like 2T is the wd550 any good looks pretty cheap.

I use a 480GB SSD OS drive and a 2TB SSD with a plan to add an additional 2TB NVMe later down the line.

I've got a lot of fighting and racing games that are good to keep installed to play every now and then, not just a story game that gets played once and uninstalled, with games like Modern Warfare 2TB can get filled quickly. Both the new consoles have totally inadequate standard storage amounts IMO.

In the past I had a 4TB HDD for games but changed it to SSD due to being too noisy in my new case. One big advantage of keeping a separate OS drive is you can do stuff like that very easily.

I'd like to have at least 4TB for my games, no reason to compromise with doings uninstalls and installs all the time on PC.

I was in a similar quandary recently as my 256gb nvme was starting to fill up at an alarming rate. Personally I decided on 3x1tb nvme in raid for windows and just stuff then I have a couple of 8tb drives that I use for backups and additional space. All backups then jump onto a NAS. Have been very happy with the new config.
