You must be joking mate! I have both these cards and even a crossfire set up with 4850's and my good old GTX more than holds it's own against a single 4850. And besides, he asked about the 4870 ;)

From what I've read, I think you'll get a nice gain from the 4870 over the GTX but not convinced it's enough of an upgrade to shell out new monies for. You'll also need to consider what resolution your playing with ;)

What are you doing that your GTX can't handle?...

the 4750 will give more fps.

If you game at 1680 or below and use vsync where possible you will see little difference. The GTX can pretty much run everything out there synced at 60 FPS. I sent mine back for this very reason.

What about me then?. I game at 1920x1200 usually but I'm capable of 2048x1536 but will run at the best resolution for a smooth gaming experience. I don't use V-sync either. I'm thinking of either the 4870 or hanging on to see the 4870 X2 but then I don't want to replace my PSU as well as being a little worried that my 3.2Ghz CPU isn't fast enough for X2.

huh? A 4850 is marginally if at all faster than a 8800GTX, i would have thought 2 GTX's would be a fair bit faster..?

You would really see the true benefit of the 4870 then. But to be honest, I would wait until next week and see how aggressively priced the X2 is. At your top resolution, i'm guessing you would be better off with the X2, but you're right, the CPU is going to limit your gains a little.

Ahh cool, thank you for the reply.

Looks like I'll be moving but waiting until after X2 is released. I can push this CPU to 3.4/3.5Ghz if I work on it (just too damn lazy :o) but if I get the X2 then I'll just use this CPU to test and if I need more power I'll pick one up.

But will the 4870 run the same games at the same FPS at the same res, but with higher AA?
