Since building my new PC I've had ongoing issues with games freezing and sound looping.

I thought at first it was only Valve/Steam games but AvP is on my Steam its one of the two that didn't cause a fuss. The other game being STALKER.

I've got a crucial 128SSD and a 1.5T WD green, i3 @4Ghz, 4GB RAM and an ATI 5770.

STALKER was the only game on the SSD. The SSD is only supposed to be for app and the HDD for games and other stuff.

I initially thought that it was a sound issue as I was using the mobo sound and thought it was causing issue with the ATI HDMI output. I bought a Xonar sound card and yet the problem continued.

I made a fresh Win7 install with nothing other than the drivers for the graphics card (ATI 5770) and sound (Xonar) and put a game onto the HDD - same problem.

Reinstalled the game on the SSD - no problem so far.

It seems that most games on the HDD (which is brand new) will freeze/sound loop but they won't on the SSD. Metro 2033 crashed to desktop so I gave up with it. Going to put in on the SSD and see if it creates.

Searched for other instances of this online but nothing is mentioned. I'm pretty sure the HD is OK.

The OC is a bundle from OCUK and I've also run most of the games all at stock and it continues.

Played Borderlands for 2 hours this morning and to froze twice needing a Ctrl, Alt,Del and it unfroze which is different from before.

i've had AvP freeze on me a couple of times. I turned my overclock down slightly (CPU from 4.0Ghz to 3.9GHz) & it hasn't done it since. Wierd thing is all other games played OK at 4GHz - even Crysis
