ONKYO HTX-22HD 2.1 System

Yah I have tried all that.

I turned both of the controls to "on" on the onkyo, which is connected to TV via HDMI. I tried top turn the volume up with the tv remote and it doesnt work.

edit: should I check that the hdmi cables are 1.3 certified?

The cables shouldn't matter, have you got an option on the TV itself to enable HDMI control? Also you are pointing the TV remote at the tv and using the standard volume controls?

Wish I had bought this system a couple of weeks back online when I could get them with surround speakers for £280. Struggling to find the surrounds for a decent price now - place I ordered from earlier phoned up to say were out of stock :(

Yeah, LG's version of hdmi control is Simplink (which i have enabled). The TV just says no simplink devices enabled.

It is infuriating that both devices have a version of HDMI CEC and yet they dont work. Grrr

ffallic - No I didn't get a HDMI either despite review's suggesting you did, Superfi probably nicked it as they were trying to sell me one for £25, and an optical etc etc. I passed on them all :p I did get an optical cable though.

Reading a leaflet in the box it look's like Panasonic, Toshiba and Sharp are the only manufacturers that are compatible sadly. RIHD compatible?

It's only a saving of £20, not much difference. I'm just gonna keep my eyes open and they'll be on offer again soon I bet :)

HDMI cables I think were only included on earlier models, none of the recent ones will have them, you just get the optical cable.

Spent an hour or two recabling all the tv stuff and it's all done now, just need to run the auto setup again with the mic to sort it for it's new positions. Can't do that until I've got some time with it all on my own though.

How have people got their speakers set up in regard to large/small and the crossover? From a bit of reading about they should be set small with a crossover near the lower end of what the speakers are capable of, Onkyo rate them at 70Hz-150KHz according to the manual, I've set mine small with a crossover of 100Hz and it sounds really good so far.

I dropped mine down to 120 last night, but decided I would read the manual before making any further changes.

Have mine set to small speakers.

Need to get some small speakers to use as rears off the bay. Just worried about whether the sound from them will gel with the onkyo speakers or not. At least this system is highly configurable with regards to the speaker setup - I though it might only allow for 2.1 or 5.1 setup, but it's quite flexible, which is great as I was not bothered about a center.

Edit: and what's the difference between normal speaker outs for surround, and pre-outs for the surround?

Superfi have it for £219 in store.

Richer Sounds has it for £229 but they give you the option of paying for their extended warrenty which is refundable if you don't use it. You get a 2 year warrenty from Onkyo to start with.

The 5.1 pack seems to be £299 most places. Although in the past the extra speakers have been sold for £40 on their own when places try to shift stock so I'm just keeping my eye out for them separtantly. :)

Let us know if you find any, I'm mainly interested in the centre and did see some places had them as low as £29 a few weeks ago.

Thanks.

Yeah, would like to know if anyone sees the surrounds for a decent price. When I tried to order I was told that they were discontinued now, so will likely start proving very difficult to get hold of.

Silly question maybe but atm I am using my 10 yr old technics mini hifi when I watch dvd & bluray movies, it's just a stereo system with 2 speakers

Would the Onkyo be a noticable improvement, especially for hd sounds on bluray movies?
will I hear sounds that I cannot currently hear?

Extra HDMI cable came today, so got it connect up as discussed thanks and it's improved even more :)

Volume and poweroff even work with my Samsung 6 Series which I wasn't expecting so that's cool :D

Just a question, I've renamed Cbl/Sat to SKY and Games/TV to PS3 and this is fine but as soon as I alter the volume or whatever it reverts back to Cbl/Sat and Gam/TV this the same for everyone else? (do you know what I'm on about?!)

Wait for my two Sona speaker stand to turn up off the bay then I can fine tweek it to my liking. :)

I renamed the inputs on mine and they have stuck, changing volume doesn't have any affect on the input names.

Hmm, strange if I change the inputs then the names are still there but again if I alter the volume they got back to the old names

Will have to have a look in the morning.

try cycling the display option, I've found if you rename an input and then cycle through you get the old and new name as you cycle through.

I think it's more like you assign an extra/new name that goes alongside the preset rather than totally removing the orginal name, if that makes sense.
