Hello,

So I have the above reciever which I'm more than happy with however one niggle, I'm not sure if it's normal behaviour or not?

When I switch from one source to another, the amp makes a click? Also when changing between some TV channels it does the same. When I turned the amp off it also seemed to make a few series of clicks?

Is this weird behaviour?

Its normal to hear those clicks its the relays switching depending source selected and the incoming signal.

My Denon amp does this also you just have to get used to it.

Like Peahead states, it's just the relays switching to the relevant source or when you turn on/off the receiver. The time to worry is when you don't hear any clicks and any sound from your receiver, this means either your receiver is broken, or you've gone deaf. :D

I've the same model Onkyo, awaiting ceiling speakers fitting then I'll be able to test but does sound normal, my old onkyo was the same.

Why do the relays make this sound?

Also in regards to output, I'm running 4K at YCBCR444 from my PC to my TV, I'm using a 5 meter HDMI cable to the recieved then a 1.5 meter cable to the TV.

I'm getting flickering on the screen, goes blank for a few seconds then comes on, this started when I initially set up Dolby Atmos, but secondly I have now removed Atmos but forced YCBCR444 as before it wasn't running at that.

Am I at the limits of the HDMI cable?

The sound is the switches making contact with each other, when it stops clicking then you should worry.

You might be experiencing signal loss because of the length of your hdmi cable and the fact your carrying 4K signal too. an active/optical hdmi cable should fix this but they are quite expensive at £40 or you could try a hdmi repeater which are around £15.

Google search these.

HDMI Repeater Neoteck

ATZEBE Fibre Optic HDMI Cable

Hope this helps.

the relays used are mechanical switches driven by an electromagic. The noise is the contact inside moving from closed to open and visa versa. Perfectly normal :)
