Hi.
Ive been considering 'checking in' for my flight the day before my flight so i can guarantee some good seats for the long flight home (13 hours!!!).
Problem is though, that AirFrance's website specify that i need a printer to print off the boarding pass. Im not entirely sure if my Hotel has a printer i can use for this function though.
What would happen if i 'checked in' online & didnt print. Could i just go to the normal check in to get my boarding pass on the day?

Doh!
Just re-read the AirFrance website:
If you have an electronic ticket, internet check-in means you can:

-choose your seat thanks to a cabin plan and directly print out your boarding pass via a printer,

-or choose your seat thanks to a cabin plan, and then collect your boarding pass via a Self-Service Kiosk or at the appropriate counter when you arrive at the airport. (Check the list of airports where you must collect your boarding pass at the airport).
So going off that, i should be able to book a seat 24hours before the flight, and collect the boarding pass at the airport itself?

Correct?

So with just the information on my expedia thingy, which as far as i can see is just:
Flight numbers for between Narita & Paris, and Paris & Manchester.
AirFrance confirmation code.

Is that all i need to book my seat in advance.

I apologise if all this seems a little 'stating the obvious', but this being my first holiday in 7 years, and my first alone, to somewhere on the other side of the world, i like to double (and if possible triple:p) check things. lol.

Thanks in advance. :)

you may need your passport # as well (you do with Ryanir), just double check that your airport has the self service kiosk.Ask the hotel if they have a printer

Ive tryed checking in for the flight now, and with both my passport number and the flight info that i have, it says:
The following errors occurred:
No reservations available for online check-in have been found that would meet your search criteria.
Is that just because im trying it 48hours before?

The info i have, is:
Passport number.
Expedia Itinerary Number.
Expedia Booking Number.
Airline Ticket Number.
Airline Ticket Date.
KLM Confirmation Code(That was for on the way i asume as i flew with KLM).
AirFrance Confirmation Code.
Flight Numbers.

Now, according to the AirFrance checkin website, i can check in with either my passport number, which if im reading the right number, reads in the format of: X 123456.
Or, Electronic ticket number & flight. The electronic ticket number, if i put the confirmation code in errors with 'not enough characters', but doesnt with the 'Airline Ticket Number'. And the flight thing, im asuming i put the flight number in.

Correct? & is the error just because im trying to book early?

Thanks again in advance. :)

Seeing as it's AF don't forget to wave goodbye to your luggage before you drop it off :D
lol.
I dont think we're going though Milan Malpensa...:p

Im dreading the flight. I got bored out of my mind on the way with KLM. Which wasnt helped by no leg room, and the pratt in front of me moving his seat back, meaning that i could no longer see the screen on the back of his seat! :(
13 hour flight. Im gonna end up going mental i think.

Im hoping that i can reserve a seat with loads of leg room to help alliviate things.

So are the errors im getting just because im trying to book in 2 days early?

Well never used AirFrance but for BA you can online check-in 24 hours in advance. Used it quite a few times, definitely saves quite a bit of time.

This is annoying, according to the airfrance website, im assigned to seat '36C', an aisle seat. But because of the way the website is laid out, ive no idea if its a seat with footroom or not.

Are there any univeral seating plans anywhere for a '77W' aircraft?

www.seatguru.com or http://www.lovemyseat.com/

Pick the airline and aircraft type - can't remember whether a 77W is a 777-200 or -300 though.

Seating layouts are specific to the Airline AFAIK and so a generic plan (provided by either AF for the otherone) could differ from what the plane looks like. I'd say the AF one would be more accurate though.

The problem is that the AirFrance website is rubbish. Heres the seating plan/s from AF:

Ive been thinking.
I highly doubt that 90% of the passengers on the flight have already logged in on the net and selected their seats. So, are the 'empty' seats just the ones that havnt been sold, and the rest are just place holders for the other passengers, that'll be properly allocated tomorrow when the bulk of them check in?
If so, even though ive changed my seat from 36C to 22C, when i turn up at Narita tomorrow, as i'll be at the Airport 8 hours+ early, i should be able to get myself a good seat shouldnt i?

I'm flying out tomorrow, I'm thinking about doing an online check-in too, but the flight is only 2 hours. Anyway, what's considered to be a "good seat"?

Best seat (in economy class) on the plane is the one by an emergency exit over the wing so your legroom is not constrained in anyway whatsoever. I was lucky enough to get one once.

They generally only relase 60% for pre booking , exit seats are normally not released as they need to check your suitability prior to allocation

Some seats will be automatically allocated by the airline due to special requirements. For example, a person travelling with a baby will require a seat with 2 air masks above it, which not every seat has, so this is done before anyone else is allowed to pick their seats. I'm not sure if there is a standard seat allocation for everyone else, but if so, you'd need someone to opt out of a "good seat" for it to become available to you.

Im gonna make up some bullplop story about why i need a seat with leg room.
Ive got suitable backing for it if they need evidence...:p

Problem is, 8 hours at Narita, what the heck am i ment to do for 8 hours!
