looking for suggestions of games to look at which

1) can be played on a semi decent gaming laptop (forget the specs but it's 2 years old and was bought for £1300 when new)

and

2) can be played with someone else where you work together e.g. dayz.

i've played dayz a few years ago and have 2 copies of arma2, plus one copy of stand alone so may try that if people feel it's still worth giving it and go and it's improved in the last 2 years.

suggestions please...

edit: so it seems dayz is dead so wont be tying that idea. £20 down the drain i only ever loaded it up once

I used to game with my 2GB mobile-gpu laptop and most of my games are co-op so here are some of my recommendations:

Action:
- Insurgency
- Arma 2
- Payday: The Heist and Payday 2
- Borderlands 1 and 2
- Left 4 Dead 1 and 2
- Guns of Icarus Online

Survival:
- H1Z1
- Don't Starve Together
- Arma 2 (Wasteland mod)
- Rust
- Space Engineers
- Terraria

RPG:
- Path of Exile
- Torchlight 1 and 2
- Diablo 3

Tower Defense:
- Dungeon Defenders

Strategy:
- Civilization V
- Total War series

MOBA:
- League of Legends
- DOTA 2

i must be getting old or my standards are too high but none of them really take my fancy other than h1z1. does it have a decent community? how does it compare to dayz

thanks for the big list.

It'll be difficult to find a community while in-game as they are all public servers and most shoot on sight on the Survival Mode servers.

I play with my mates in our own community and it's great especially with 5-man Battle Royale. Teamwork is necessary and the toxic gas countdown really puts us all on the edge of our seats, it's really exciting and funny at times. There's 2-man Battle Royale too, as well as solo so that might suit you quite well.

I used to played DayZ but gave it up for H1Z1 because:

1) There's a slick crafting system (on Survival Mode)
2) Base building is straightforward (on Survival Mode)
3) It's quite difficult to be killed in one hit which gives you the chance to run away or fight back
4) H1Z1 is not a walking simulation, the map is of good size
5) H1Z1 has easy respawn so you can keep trying until you find a good spot to team up with friends - you just need to type in the console /respawn (on Survival Mode)
6) The interface is more simple than DayZ's clunky Arma controls
7) There's Battle Royale for 1, 2, and 5 person teams
8) I cannot emphasize enough how fun Battle Royale is with friends
9) Dayz development is practically abandoned and although H1Z1 is slow in production, they're still working on it.
10) You can find a key for £10

i should have been clearer when i said decent community. i meant decent size community/player base, so that when i play coop with my friend on their desktop there will be good choice of different sized servers etc

thinking about it, what i'm ideally looking for is an open world game with things to do with a friend. other players is fine, but if we can at least play together achieving something. i prefer behind the character 3rd person or 1st, rather than above the character 3rd you see with games like diablo.

something like skyrim 2 player would be perfect. TOR i've played before with my brother but found it to be too much of a grind.

Their server list will show if there's low, medium or high population. There's a handful of highly populated servers and of course lots of medium/small populated servers.

As for Battle Royale, there are always thousands queuing up to play.

You will not have any issues finding players to play with/against.

According to SteamCharts, as of an hour ago there were 6,583 players playing on Dayz and 13,691 on H1Z1. That should give you an idea on the playerbase difference between the two.

Minecraft?
That arc game I think might be somit ur after with Dino's, surviving, open world and crafting and is popular right now?

we play minecaft on the xbox one (actually the only game i really play in it), but have had to stop as they've messed up our save games file so until they get it back to us we're taking a break.

ARK would struggle on the laptop. not that it's a bad laptop, think 8gm ram with 2ghz cpu, but i know it'll not work. plus from what i played or ark i only found it ok. nothing that interesting. i guess i liked how with dayz you could just run into the woods and hide, sneak etc. ark i found if i left my immediate area straight up i'd be dead within seconds.

i've heard of eve online but never given it much research. sell it to me. from the tiny amount i've seen it seems like a fancy looking excel game, but it's from what i can see a popular long running game so much be good.

Payday 2 is great if you want teamwork best with friends though.
Borderlands 2 is awesome again with friends.
Eve online as above is just a spreadsheet in space 10/10 marmite game.
Arma 3 - Breaking point mod is amazing!

Spintyres

Might not be your thing but great fun to coop.

Another survival game I like is 7 days to die, by far my favourite early access survival at the moment.

Been enjoying Dying Light tbh with my friends in co-op. You can play the whole thing in co-op except for the very start and the very end, which is like 98% of the game apparently.
